🚨 | Saka 🤝 Madueke

Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke go way back. Same academy roots, close since childhood, even their dads are friends.

Madueke says that closeness doesn’t affect competition. If anything, it pushes them both. He believes the pressure to perform helps them grow, for club and country.

Some questioned Arsenal spending £48m on Madueke, but the club saw his 1v1 ability as a real weapon. He showed that with a driving run that helped create the opener.

Behind the scenes, Saka played a role too. Arteta spoke to him directly about Madueke, and both Saka and Declan Rice spoke highly of his character.

The result? Smart rotation. Since December, Arsenal have played nine games. Saka started five, Madueke four. That’s rare for Saka, but important given his hamstring history.

And Saka is still making the difference. Assist off the bench at the weekend. A goal as a sub against Brentford last month.

After years of searching for proper cover, Arsenal finally have it. Madueke is competing, contributing, and handling the battle for minutes the right way.

Thoughts, Gunners? 🤔

What do you think about this news and do you welcome such player into this squad ?

If you ask me I don’t think we need him cause Leandro Trossard is playing fine this season and Eze isn’t even getting minutes lately… let’s just wait till the summer and see more better options for that position.

Mikel Merino on Arsenal: “After so long, people haven’t given up. Another group, another squad might have thought, ‘Well, our chance has slipped away and we’ve been close to winning and didn’t do it.’ But with this team you see that the ones who have been here since day one are hungrier than ever. And the new players come in with that same hunger to contribute and to adapt to the group right away.”

Mikel Merino: “Hopefully, this is the year, but there’s still so much time left and it’s so hard to win titles and trophies in a league like the Premier League, and especially the Champions League. What won’t be missing is hunger and hard work.”

Mikel Merino on if he prefers playing up front or in midfield: “ It depends on which centre backs you’re up against! If they’re really physical, maybe it’s better in midfield! But I’m happy and comfortable in both positions.

“If I have one good quality, it’s that I understand what I need to do in different positions. I adapt to what the coach asks of me, to what the team needs and I feel comfortable.”

Mikel Merino on what Martin Zubimendi brings to the Arsenal team: “He honestly brings a lot. They don’t make signings here for no reason and whenever someone comes in, it’s to add something to the team.

“He’s adapted very quickly. I don’t think he’s really needed help from anyone. His English is coming along little by little, and on the pitch, he’s doing very well.”

Declan Rice on if he will watch Man City vs. Chelsea: “I didn't even watch the game versus Sunderland, honestly. I think I'm just, if I've got the time tomorrow, I might watch it. But, yeah, I'm just focusing on us at the minute.

“I know it sounds cliché. I think it's just important there's so many games, our recovery's got to be so important, and I can't get too caught up in what others are doing. I think it's the most important thing is what we do, and we can only control that.

“You know, it'll be a good game. I'm sure. But yeah, let's just keep going ourselves.”

Declan Rice: “I haven't scored a lot this season, to be honest with you, I've only scored two. So to grab a brace today and an important victory it was a really nice feeling.

“When you win and you're able to help out the team like I did today, it always had that extra bit of a special feeling. I'm delighted with the goals and, obviously, more importantly, three points because they're a really good side, especially here.”

Declan Rice on the Win: “Yeah, massive, obviously, off the back of Aston Villa. I think the key thing today was to build on that and to go and win.

“The win against Villa would have meant nothing if we come here today and didn't pick up anything. But it's so important this time of the year. The schedule is crazy. The fixtures come thick and fast. If you can win your games in and around Christmas, on top of what we've done already, it's going to put us in a really good position.

“So we've got to keep building on that, keep the mentality right, keep pushing. But we're in a really good spot at the minute and long may that continue.”

Declan Rice: “I think in the first half, I think we was doing the things they want. We kept playing the ball to our left side and they kept trapping us.

“As soon as we made that one pass over to Gabriel, they all swarmed in on us. They made us either go back to David [Raya] or kick it long. And like you said, it did feel like that on the pitch.

“It felt like they were swarmed all over us in the first half. We're a team that, in the second half, once we get in there at half-time and the manager speaks and we speak between each other, we knew we had the quality and we knew the space was there to go on and win the game.

“We've done that a lot this season. You know, credit to everyone to go out there and perform how we did second half, because that wasn't easy to do.”
