January is Blood Donation Month Your Gift Can Save Lives!
Every two seconds, someone needs blood. Yet, supply often falls short. Donating blood is one of the simplest, most impactful ways to make a difference. A single donation can save up to three lives!
Who Can Donate?
- Age & Weight: Typically 16–18+ years and at least 50 kg (110 lbs).
- Health: Must be in good health with normal hemoglobin, blood pressure, and temperature.
How Often Can You Donate?
- Whole Blood: Every 56 days (8 weeks).
- Power Red: Every 112 days (~4 months).
- Platelets: Every 7 days.
- Plasma: Every 28 days (4 weeks)
When Should You NOT Donate?
- If you have a cold, flu, fever, or infection.
- Low hemoglobin or anemia.
- Uncontrolled blood pressure or heart conditions.
- HIV, hepatitis B/C, or certain cancers.
- Recent tattoos, piercings, pregnancy, surgery, or blood transfusion.
