The five states with the highest FGM prevalence in 2013 namely;osun(78%to 57%), ebonyi(68%to 53.2%), Ekiti (72% to 57.9%), imo(68% to 61.7%) and oyo(66% to 31.1%)

FGM violates a series of well-established human rights principles,norms and standards, including the principles of equality and non-discrimination on the basis of s*x, the right to life and right to freedom from torture or cruelty, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment and violation of the bodily integrity of girls and women.

LEGISLATION IN STATES
several states (25) have passed legislations against FGM with different degrees of penalties against it. The states include; Anambra, edo, Delta, Ebonyi, imo, Rivers, cross- river, bayelsa, ogun, osun, ondo, oyo, Ekiti, Kwara and Kaduna. Some other states are in various stages of enacting legislation and criminalization of FGM .
These legislation prohibit the practice of all forms of FGM.
Jigawa(66.9% ), Kano( 71%) Kaduna(63.1) and zamfara(58.2%).At the zonal level the highest prevalence is the North West ( 56%) and south west( 21.6%)
