Mpox OUTBREAK: MAJOR SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF THE DISEASE

Mpox, a disease caused by the monkeypox virus, presents a variety of signs and symptoms that can range from mild to severe. Understanding these indicators is crucial for early detection and treatment.

Individuals with mpox usually develop a rash that can appear on the hands, feet, chest, face, mouth, or around the ge****ls, including the p***s, testicles, l***a, va**na, and a**s. The incubation period ranges from 3 to 17 days.

The rash can initially look like pimples or blisters and may be painful or itchy.

Other symptoms of mpox may include fever, chills, swollen lymph nodes, fatigue, muscle aches and back pain, headache, and respiratory issues like a sore throat, nasal congestion, or cough.

The symptoms begin within 21 days of exposure to the virus. If you experience flu-like symptoms, a rash will likely develop within 1 to 4 days afterward. If you notice symptoms like a rash, it's important to see a healthcare provider.

Mpox OUTBREAK: KEY THINGS TO KNOW

Mpox (also known as monkey pox) has emerged as a silent yet deadly force, quietly spreading across Africa and posing a significant health threat to millions. It's imperative to know crucial things about this diseases and how to avoid it. Below are some facts about the disease.

Mpox, or monkeypox, is an infectious disease caused by the monkeypox virus. It can lead to a painful rash, swollen lymph nodes, and fever. While most people recover completely, some may become seriously ill.

The monkeypox virus was first identified in Denmark in 1958 in monkeys used for research. The first documented human case of mpox occurred in 1970 in a nine-month-old boy in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Mpox can be transmitted from one person to another and, in some cases, from animals to humans.

Typical symptoms of mpox include a skin rash or mucosal lesions that can persist for 2–4 weeks, along with fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, fatigue, and swollen lymph nodes.

Mpox can be prevented by avoiding physical contact with infected individuals. Vaccination is also an effective measure to protect those at risk from the infection.

TIPS FOR PREVENTING MALARIA

Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by parasites transmitted to humans through the bites of infected female mosquitoes.
When mosquitoes suck blood, they use their specialized mouthparts to pierce the skin and locate a blood vessel. During this process, they inject saliva containing anticoagulants to prevent blood clotting. They then draw blood into their bodies to obtain nutrients. This feeding behavior can transmit diseases like Malaria if the mosquito is carrying pathogens from a previous host.

The Impacts:
The World Health Organization estimated that globally in 2022, there were an estimated 249 million malaria cases and 608,000 malaria deaths in 85 countries with the highest prevalence in Africa. The most vulnerable groups are young children, who have not yet developed immunity to malaria, and pregnant women, whose immunity is decreased by pregnancy. If you notice any of the following signs of malaria, please contact your doctor: fever, chills, sweating, headache, muscle and joint pain, fatigue, nausea and vomiting, among others.

Preventive Measures:
One remarkable aspect of this disease is that it is curable! There are several measures that can be implemented to combat malaria:

1. Maintain a clean environment.
2. Use mosquito nets.
3. Implement insecticide spraying and use mosquito coils.
4. Wear protective clothing.
5. Use antimalarial medications, such as chloroquine, quinine, and mefloquine.
