TRUTH: You may be WRONG if you think that numbness that you feel in the back of your leg is SCIATICA.
😡
"SAY WHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAATT?!?!!?"
Piriformis syndrome is also known as "FAKE SCIATICA." It does have the classical symptom of numbness and tingling in the back your leg but where it differs is where the pain begins.
▪ Sciatica starts above the hips in the lower back, whereas piriformis syndrome begins in the butt.
▪ Fake sciatica occurs when the muscle of the piriformis "pinches" the sciatic nerve, whereas sciatica occurs when a nerve bulges.
Either way we talk corrective exercise, the common demoninator between sciatica and fake sciatica is your hips.
In athletes who suffer from sciatica, it is very common see a pelvis that tilts too far forward.
In athletes who suffer from piriformis syndrome, it is very common see a tailbone that has shifted too much in one direction.
