CIRCULAR
ASUSS IN OYO STATE – THE STATE OF THINGS

Dear Esteemed Comrades and fellow Teachers

It is very imperative that we bring to your notice, recent happenings as it concerns the progress of our great Union ASUSS in the state and the numerous forum shopping of NUT to incapacitate us by every means.

Please recall that in September 2023, all Account Officers in all the Ten Zones of TESCOM were directed via Electronic Text Messages, to commence the deduction of check off dues from source from the salaries of our members in all government secondary schools in Oyo State.
This came about as a result of the Legal Advice sent to the Oyo State government (TESCOM) by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oyo State, detailing the legal right of ASUSS to be duly recognised in the state.

Therefore, that Text Message to the Account Officers was in simple language, the desired final recognition and a very great victory for us.
However, NUT in the state knows this. And as they have always done, they searched for means of scuttling this victory by making all manners of ascertions, half truths and outright falsehoods before the government.

But it is worthy of note that the government of the day in the state stood for justice, fairness, equity and the rule of law. So, NUT had no other option than to head for the court AGAIN to stop TESCOM from commencing the deductions! NUT filed a suit No. NICN/IB/55/2023 against ASUSS, TUC, THE ATTORNEY GENERAL and OYO STATE GOVERNMENT, in November 2023, that is after the Text Messages were sent in September 2023.

Let us bring us all to a speedy update. When the struggle began in Oyo State in 2006, and NUT refused to stop deducting check off from our salaries, ASUSS took NUT and the Oyo State government to court. That case was judged in favour of ASUSS. Then Oyo State gave ASUSS recognition and began deduction of dues. NUT did NOT appeal the judgement. But later in 2010, NUT instituted a suit against ASUSS and the Oyo
