Today 10th October is World Mental health day.
This day was established and celebrated to raise awareness, promoting mental health and reduce stigma around mental health.
This year’s theme set by the World Federation of Mental Health is workplace mental health. The theme highlights the importance of addressing mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, for the benefit of people, organisations, and communities.
Mental illness, also called mental health disorders, refers to a wide range of mental health conditions or disorders that affect your mood, thinking and behavior. Examples of mental illness include depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders and addictive behaviors.
There are a lot of signs , symptoms and causes of mental illness that affects one's day to day activities.
It is advised to eat healthy, sleep well, relax, exercise and so on in order to deal with a mental breakdown.

Today is SnakeBite Awareness Day.
This gives us a unique opportunity to give victims of this global health crisis the attention they deserve.

Snakebite envemoning was officially listed by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a category A (highest priority) Neglected Tropical Disease in 2017. The launch was aimed to raise awareness of huge, yet mostly recognized, global impact of snake bite.

"Snakebites can cause paralysis, fatal hemorrhages, irreversible kidney failure and tissue damage that can lead to disability and amputation. The number of people being bitten by snakes each year could be as high as 5.4 million according to WHO. The fact that snakebite is not being recognized on the global stage must change.”

Prevention is the first step in stopping this snakebite crisis.

What should I do if someone is bitten by a poisonous snake 🐍?

A:
⏱️ Time is essential - seek medical care without delay
💉 Get antivenom within 4-6 hours after bite
‼️ Immobilize the bitten person and keep them from moving around at all
🫁 If possible place them on their side to help protect their airway and breathing.

Mosquitoes are more than just a nuisance, these tiny insects have been a formidable adversary to human health for centuries.They can carry diseases that affect your health.
Malaria, a life-threatening disease spread primarily by the Anopheles mosquito, continues to be a significant global health challenge. To combat this and other mosquito-borne illnesses, we must prioritize prevention.

1.Use Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITNs): Sleeping under an ITN is one of the most effective ways to prevent malaria transmission.

The World Health Organization has declared mpox a global public health emergency for the second time warning that the viral disease could spread quickly to new countries.
Mpox a viral disease related to smallpox,has spread to neighboring countries following an upsurge in Central Africa.
Mpox also known as monkeypox is believed to circulate in small mammals such as monkeys and squirrels.One in humans, the infection commonly causes a skin rash or pus filled lesions, and sometimes flu-like.
The common symptoms of mpox are rashes, fever headache, back pain, low energy, muscle pain, fatigue and swollen lymph nodes.It is spread through close contact with someone infected ,body fluid, cough and sneeze or even touching contaminated objects.
It is adviced to avoid anyone with mpox, Wash your hands with soap and water if the virus is in your community.
And if you have the symptoms isolate yourself until the rash disappears.

Lifestyle refers to the way of life or habits of an individual or group.

Healthy lifestyle is a way of living that lowers the risk of being seriously ill or dying. It is built on the pillars of a good diet, frequent exercise and appropriate sleep. It also keep people in excellent shape and also gives more energy throughout the day and lowers chances of developing any diet-related chronic disease . Not all diseases are preventable but a large proportion of deaths, particularly from coronary heart disease can be avoided.
Health is not just about avoiding disease but it is also about physical, mental and social well-being. When a healthy lifestyle is adopted, there is a high chance of living longer.
