We have : white and Red blood cells
White blood cells comprise of :
Granulocytes and Agranulocytes WBC
Granulocytes includes:
Eosinophil
Basophils
Neutrophils
Agranulocytes:
Lymphocytes
Monocytes
Structure: 1
Eosinophils are characterized by their bilobed nucleus and granules in their cytoplasm, which stain pink with eosin dye.
Function:
Eosinophils have a complex role in both health and disease. While they are important for defending against parasites and allergens, they can also contribute to the inflammation and tissue damage in conditions like asthma and allergies.
Eosinophilia:
An elevated eosinophil count (eosinophilia) can be a sign of various conditions, including parasitic infections, allergies, asthma, or even certain cancers.
In essence: Eosinophils are specialized white blood cells that play a multifaceted role in the immune system, contributing to both the defense against pathogens and the regulation of inflammation and tissue repair.
