Men Give Belle by Choice, Not by Force- World Contraception Day Campaign
Still on our 10k Men Give Belle by Choice Not by Force Challenge, on Friday, September 26th, we carried out sensitization in communities in Ado-Odo Ota to commemorate World Contraception Day 2025 with the theme "A choice for all — agency, intention, access." We walked from the Araromi community to the Sango Ota under-bridge, engaging the men, boys, women, and girls on safe s*x practices, abstinence, consent, and respect to promote informed choice.
We debunked the stigma surrounding the uptake of modern contraception, and the people, both men and women, came forward to publicly request the commodity. chanting by Choice not by Chance
It's really impressive to see many of the youths, men, and women gladly accepting the male condoms we were sharing. This is clearly an indicator that one of our Belle by Choice messages focusing on improving knowledge and de-stigmatizing the use of modern contraceptives among men and women in Ogun State is gaining ground.
Some of the Men also pledged their commitment to end r**e, s*xual violence, and promote consent and respect for women's and girls' human rights.
Thanks to our partners and members of the Belle by Choice Movement, together we are building a future where every pregnancy is by choice, not by chance or by force.
Another thing that was clear during the sensitization is the high demand and low supply of contraception in remote communities, and this is not just in Ogun but across many hard-to-reach communities in Nigeria that we have visited. The young people are no longer ashamed to use a condom or talk about safe s*x. They came out publicly to request it. The little commodities we were able to secure and carry along with us for the sensitization was not enough. From the 18th to the 20th of September 2025, our team was in Oyo state for Men Give Belle by Choice community sensitization and stakeholder engagement, including a advocacy visit to the Olubadan of Ibadan Land palace.
I want to take this opportunity to call on the relevant stakeholders, including the Ogun State Ministry of Health, development partners, to Act Now to improve access to safe, affordable, and youth-friendly contraception in the hard-to-reach communities to end unwanted pregnancies, unsafe abortions, teenage motherhood, and child marriage.
Every woman and girl has the right to decide if, when, and how to have children, and I am calling on fellow men to embrace positive masculinity. This is because Consent and respect for women’s bodily rights and autonomy are non-negotiable.
