Victim blaming happens when we shift responsibility from the person who caused harm to the person who experienced it. It might sound like, “Why didn’t you speak up sooner?” or “You should’ve known better.” These comments, even when unintentional, can deepen someone’s pain and discourage them from seeking help.
Responding with empathy matters. Instead of questioning or judging, we can choose to listen, support, and stand with those who’ve been hurt. It’s how we create safer spaces, where people feel seen, believed, and never blamed for their pain
