The biggest event mistake we've often noticed is a rushed (or nonexistent!) soundcheck...
Soundcheck isn't just about things working, it is about optimizing for the event's success. A rushed soundcheck leads to potential disasters that are hard to fix during the live event.
A common mistake is to assume gear works without testing, not leaving time for acoustic adjustments, and underestimating the time needed based on the event complexity.
This leads to feedback, blown speakers, and unhappy audiences. Don't let it happen to you! Use this quick checklist to ensure flawless audio every time
1. Gear Check: Seems obvious, but missing essentials (power cables, DI boxes) cause major delays. This check is also about confirming settings haven't been accidentally changed.
2. Channel Check: Verifies EVERY input is functional and reaching the mixer correctly. Catching problems here saves embarrassment during speeches, performances, etc.
3. Signal Flow: Mis-routing audio leads to sounds in the wrong places or not being heard at all! Tracing every connection uncovers errors before they become show-stopping.
4. Room Acoustics: Every space affects sound. This is about spotting major problems (echoing hallways, boomy corners), and adjusting the sound system accordingly.
