KGSHIA, BRT Consult Hold Three-Day Management and Leadership Training to Deepen Universal Health Coverage Drive
The Kogi State Health Insurance Agency (KGSHIA), in partnership with The Business Round Table (BRT) Consult Limited, has concluded a three-day Management and Leadership Training aimed at strengthening strategic governance and administrative excellence in the quest to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Kogi State.
The training, themed “Leading the Charge for Universal Health Coverage: Strategic Governance and Administrative Excellence in Kogi State,” was declared open on January 12, 2026, by the Executive Secretary of KGSHIA in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State.
In his welcoming remarks, the Executive Secretary, Dr. Aledare Adekunle, underscored the underlying importance of continuous capacity development for top management officers of the Agency, noting that effective leadership and sound mental preparedness are critical to improved productivity and service delivery.
He emphasized that as KGSHIA opens a new chapter in 2026, management and staff must be strategically positioned with the requisite leadership skills and mindset to meet institutional goals, stressing that productivity can only be enhanced through deliberate investment in knowledge, competence, and leadership readiness.
Dr. Aledare further disclosed that KGSHIA is targeting the enrollment of over 150,000 enrollees in the Informal Sector Plan in 2026, while consolidating gains already recorded in the Formal Sector. He stated that the Agency has successfully commenced the Formal Sector Plan for State and Local Government civil servants, the Pensioners Contributory Health Insurance Programme (PENCHIP), and the Tertiary Institutions Social Health Insurance Programme (TISHIP), bringing the total number of formal sector enrollees to over 270,000 in 2025.
Speaking on data analysis and its relevance to health insurance administration, a facilitator from BRT Consult, Mr. Kayode Johnson, highlighted the critical role of data in policy formulation, decision-making, and public accountability. He provided a broad-based exposition on the specific responsibilities of each department within the Agency, particularly in relation to data gathering, proper documentation, and evidence-based planning.
Another session focused on governance and stakeholder relations, where facilitators examined their pivotal role as driving tools for the actualization of Universal Health Coverage for residents of Kogi State.
Participants were guided on how effective collaboration, transparency, and stakeholder engagement can accelerate enrollment and service uptake.
Mr. Kehinde Omodara, one of the facilitators, delivered an extensive presentation on productivity, organizational values, and problem-solving techniques. He identified key factors militating against optimal productivity in public institutions and proffered practical solutions and strategies to enhance efficiency and output.
Also speaking, Dr. Oluwayemisi Adegboye, PhD, introduced participants to the ReTAIE Principle: The Power that Unlocks the Potentials Within. She explained the core components—Realization; Thoughts and Talk; Attitude; Effects; and Impacts—as essential drivers of profitable and sustainable organizational performance.
According to her, for KGSHIA as a critical conduit for the realization of UHC in Kogi State, applying these principles is not a misplaced priority but a strategic necessity.
The training provided a robust platform for knowledge sharing, capacity building, and experiential learning, enabling participants to broaden their perspectives and deepen their understanding of modern leadership and management practices.
In his closing remarks, Hon. Abraham Jacob, Permanent Member (PM-II) of KGSHIA, speaking on behalf of the Board, Management, and Staff of the Agency, expressed profound appreciation to the facilitators for what he described as an impactful and value-driven exercise. He noted that the knowledge acquired would reflect in improved operational efficiency and service delivery across the Agency.
At the end of the programme, certificates of participation were presented to the Executive Secretary and all other participants.
