CARE OF THE EYES
The eyes are very important as they enable vision. They must never be taken for granted. Just as it is important to keep the body healthy, it is also important to keep your eyes healthy. Everybody needs regular eye examination because it helps to detect eye diseases like glaucoma that has no symptoms in its early stage. Eye diseases can be easily prevented if you practice essential eye care habits every day.
Surprisingly, although these habits are very practical and easy to accomplish, yet they tend to be neglected. To maintain eye health and keep your vision sharp, here are some things that should be part of your daily routine.
Avoid rubbing your eyes. Your hands are filled with dirt and bacteria which can easily be transferred into the eyes. Always wash your hands to keep bacteria off and maintain a good hygiene. Avoid exposing your eyes to direct sunlight and UV (ultraviolet) rays by wearing sunglasses and caps. Always stay hydrated; just as water is good for the body, it is also good for the eyes. Maintain a healthy lifestyle by keeping off smoking which can damage the optic nerve and eat a balanced diet. Also, computer should be positioned about an arm's length away from the eyes, have sufficient but dispersed lighting in your room and always try to get enough sleep.
In conclusion, always see your optometrist to get your eyes tested for vision and eye problems. Even if you feel you don't have any problem, get your eyes tested every two years. This test is like the general medical check-up which can detect underlying health problems. You may need to do this test more frequently, depending on your age and medical history.
