Our Society Today Often Celebrates Scandalous and Trivial Issues More than Excellence – Ofoleh
The Chairman of New Motor Spare Parts Market, Nkpor, Chief Stephen Obiorah Ofoleh (Award), has lamented that today’s society tends to celebrate negative issues more than excellence and hard work.
He made this remark while hosting one of Anambra’s brightest young minds, Nwachukwu Victor Ikechukwu, the 2024 Overall Best Candidate in NECO, who also recorded 8 A’s and 1 B in WAEC and scored 352 in JAMB, all in the same year.
Describing him as an academic hero from Ekwulobia Community in Aguata LGA, Anambra State, Chief Ofoleh expressed concern that such an outstanding performance did not even make it to social media discussions the way scandals like the Ibom Air saga and other trivial issues do.
He narrated how he stumbled upon Ikechukwu’s picture on a social media platform. On zooming in, he realized it was an official NECO recognition of him as the Overall Best Candidate in the 2024 Examination. Further inquiries revealed that Ikechukwu had equally excelled in WAEC and JAMB. What touched him most, however, was discovering that the young achiever is from his home State, Anambra.
Determined to reach out, Chief Ofoleh traced and contacted Ikechukwu.
During their interaction in his office on Thursday, 4th September 2025, Chief Ofoleh frowned at the fact that Ikechukwu had neither been celebrated nor supported by anyone, not the government at any level, not organizations, associations, political leaders, nor even his immediate community.
Ikechukwu, who is currently studying Medicine at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, explained that he is pursuing his education solely through the sacrifices of his parents, who are traders. He further expressed his wish to study abroad if given assistance.
Chief Ofoleh formally congratulated him, presented him with Hundred Thousand Naira (₦100,000), and pledged his continuous support. He also promised to involve friends who would be willing to assist the young scholar. Praying for his success, he declared that his own children would tap into Ikechukwu’s grace.
Earlier, the Chairman had celebrated Ikechukwu publicly before the traders of New Motor Spare Parts Market during their usual Thursday morning prayer. A special prayer session was held for him, and Chief Ofoleh seized the opportunity to solicit further support from the traders.
Thank you, Chief Ofoleh, for this rare show of empathy and magnanimity. May God bless you and continue to uplift Ikechukwu.
