THESE MUSCLES WERE NOT BUILT IN A DAY
The cardiac muscles are associated with the heart, and the skeletal muscles are the basic units of contraction. Our focus will be on the skeletal muscles. About 650 skeletal muscles in the body contract upon receiving signals from motor neurons are in the body.
The constant contraction of the skeletal muscles over time results in a buildup of strength and vigour.
What causes this constant contraction is a deliberate consistency in keeping those muscles active, for example, by constantly working out, lifting weights and engaging various parts of your body in coordinated rigorous activities.
After each workout session, your body naturally begins to repair and replace those muscle fibres that have been weakened or damaged through stress or strains. This is achieved by fusing the muscles to form new, thicker and thicker and stronger ones.
When the synthesis of muscle protein is greater than the breakdown of muscle protein, it results in muscle growth, and consistent maintenance of this ensures the constant growth of the muscles is maintained.
Three major factors help to enhance muscle growth, and they are:
- Muscle Tension: this is where you progress in your lifting of heavier weights per time. This action causes tension in your muscles as you continue to stretch them. Fortunately, the muscles have o elastic limits, so you can stretch them as much as you want.
- Muscle Damage: Sometimes after a workout session, you may feel sore in some parts of your body. This is a sign that some muscles in your body have been damaged. In other to heal, your body begins to release some satellite cells which help to facilitate the healing of damaged muscles.
-
- Metabolic Stress: You will know this has happened when you notice a growth around your muscles, and this growth helps to make the muscles grow without increasing the cells of the muscles.
Haven understood the process of muscle growth, will you be willing to put in the consistency necessary to achieve this? Quite obviously, the muscle is not built in a day, nor can it be built in a week but with consistent, persistent and resilient efforts and a determination to always show up at the gym, you are sure on your path to building those muscles.
