ELEPHANT1AS1S: TINY MOSQUITO, A LIFELONG IMPACT.
E1ephantiasis (also known as 1ymphatic fi1ariasis) is a c0ndition that causes extreme SWELLING AND THICKENING OF THE SKIN and tissues, often in the legs, arms, or ge***al area.
E1ephantiasis is caused by PARASITIC WORMS (specifically Wuchereria bancrofti, Brugia malayi, and Brugia timori) that are transmitted through m0squit0 bites.
The parąsites responsible for e1ephantiasis are spread by MOSQUITOES, specifically Culex and Anopheles species. When an infected mosquito bites a person, it transmits larvae that eventually develop into adult w0rms in the lymphatic system.
The adult w0rms live in the lymphatic vessel and nodes, blocking the normal flow of lymph fluid. Over time, this blockage causes severe swe11ing and hardening of the skin, which leads to the characteristic "ELEPHANT-LIKE" appearance.
E1ephantiasis affects over 120 MILLION PEOPLE worldwide, primarily in tropical and subtropical regions, including parts of Africa, Southeast Asia, India, and South America.
E1ephantiasis is NOT CONTAGIOUS. It is spread only through m0squit0 bites, and a person cannot get it through direct contact with an infected person.
E1ephantiasis is PREVENTABLE. While there is NO CURE FOR E1EPHANT1AS1S, the symptoms can be managed.
Diagnosis is typically made through a bl00d test to detect the presence of microfi1ariae (larvae) in the bl00d.
