Provost of the Kogi State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Obangede, dr. James Anaza Duro, today paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Medical Director (CMD) and Management of the CUSTECH Teaching Hospital, Dr Shuaibu Stephen Babatunde.
He was accompanied by the College's Head of Students Industrial Work Experience (SIWES) coordinator, Mrs Leah Omeiza.
The meeting afforded the Provost the opportunity to express appreciation to the leadership of the hospital for accepting their student nurses for practical training, appealing for them to be allowed to learn as much as they can within their period of training.
Also speaking, the SIWES coordinator, Mrs Leah Omeiza, urged the hospital management to not only provide training on the job but also in character and attitude to work.
On his part, the CMD, CUSTECH Teaching Hospital, Dr Shuaibu Stephen Babatunde, stated that the hospital was doing its best to provide practical training for the students to enhance their education

Officials of the National Health Insurance Authority NHIA today visited the hospital as part of requirements for the accreditation of the hospital to render services to their enrollees.
The team, which include Sani Suleiman, Dr Ruqayyat Musa and Mrs Husseina Yusuf, were conducted round specific departments to interact with the staff, ask relevant questions as well as see the working tools and machines.

Executive Secretary of the Insurance Agency, Dr. Adekunle Aledare led the KGSHIA team. Issues of mutual understanding on the progress of the partnership between the hospital, KGSHIA enrolees and the Agency were discussed.

CMD, Reference Hospital Okene,Dr. Shuaibu Stephen praises Kogi State Governor Alh Usman Ahmed Ododo for converting Reference Hospital to Teaching Hospital.

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has been commended
for signing into law the bill that converts the Reference Hospital, Okene, into the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) Teaching Hospital.

Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Stephen Shuaibu Babatunde made the commendation in a statement in Okene.

Dr. Stephen, who described the signing of the bill as a welcomed development, noted that it would enhance healthcare delivery, ensure the training of more medical professionals and as well help in addressing the shortage of medical personnel in the country.

According to the CMD, “The news of the signing of the bill into law did not come as a surprise in view of the unwavering commitment of the present administration to provide accessible, top notch healthcare services to the people of Kogi State and contribute its quota to reducing brain drain in the country”.

He maintained that Government has shown great interest in the well being of the citizens by making adequate provision for quality healthcare and creating abundant opportunity for students of Kogi State origin desiring to pursue a career in medicine.

The CMD expressed optimism that with the conversion, a new lease of life has been injected into the services offered by the hospital for improved healthcare delivery and enhance the state’s capacity to train skilled medical professionals.

While praying God to grant the Governor more wisdom in piloting the affairs of the state, Dr. Stephen pledged the continued loyalty and support of the management and staff of the CUSTECH Teaching Hospital to the present administration.

Kogi Governor Signs Law Establishing CUSTECH Teaching Hospital, Okene

The Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has signed a bill converting the state-of-the-art Reference Hospital, Okene into the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) Teaching Hospital.

This was announced in Lokoja on Tuesday by the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, during a press briefing.

The move aligns with the National Universities Commission’s approval of a full-time Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program, among other medical courses, at CUSTECH. According to Mr. Fanwo, the step ensures the program begins on a solid foundation.

“This achievement is the result of months of coordinated engagement between the university, the State Ministry of Health, and the State Ministry of Education. We commend the State House of Assembly for passing the bill, which has now been signed into law by Governor Ododo,” Fanwo said.

He emphasized the administration’s prioritization of healthcare, noting that the former Reference Hospital—now the CUSTECH Teaching Hospital—is equipped with world-class medical facilities, some of which are debuting for the first time in Africa.

“With this development, CUSTECH will have cutting-edge medical technology to train outstanding healthcare professionals for Kogi State and beyond,” he added.

Fanwo further highlighted the administration’s commitment to healthcare and education, describing the signing as a significant milestone in the state’s progress. He also expressed gratitude to the State House of Assembly for their collective effort in creating this historic achievement.

With the bill now law, CUSTECH is poised to effectively commence its MBBS program.
