A recap from Day 2 of the 1st Faculty of Medical Rehabilitation Conference, themed “Rehabilitation in the Digital Age: Innovation, Integration, and Inclusion.”
The 2nd day witnessed an inspiring blend of academic brilliance, featuring thought-provoking lectures from distinguished scholars and leaders in the field of Physiotherapy.
Our keynote speaker, Professor Julius Ademokoya, delivered a powerful lecture on "Rehabilitation in the Digital Age: Innovation, Integration and Inclusion." The lecture emphasized the defining characteristics of the contemporary era, notably the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) and the continuous emergence of innovative technologies. This digital transformation is significantly reshaping the field of rehabilitation, introducing novel approaches that enhance patient care, accessibility, and clinical outcomes.
The speaker emphasized the integration of advanced digital tools, such as Virtual Reality, Robotics, and Tele-rehabilitation, into modern rehabilitation practices. However, in contrast to global progress, Nigeria’s rehabilitation sector still faces key challenges, such as limited access to services, a shortage of skilled professionals, and inadequate infrastructure.
To address these challenges, the following strategies were proposed:
1. Governmental Support: Increased funding and policy development to strengthen rehabilitation infrastructure.
2. Capacity Building: Implementation of comprehensive training programmes for rehabilitation professionals.
3. Public Awareness Campaigns: Promoting the acceptance and integration of digital rehabilitation technologies within clinical practice and the broader community.
