Lifestyle choices shape health.

Too much junk, sugary drinks, little movement, poor sleep, and constant stress can gradually lead to obesity and raise the risk of high blood pressure and heart disease.

Choose better habits. Move more. Eat smarter. Sleep well. Check your weight and blood pressure.

Protect your heart.

This Is the Feeling We Often Ignore

This is the feeling we tend to dismiss—the quiet warning your body gives before it begins to break down.

We have heard many of you say that “Slump and Die Syndrome” suddenly took a loved one away.

We acknowledge the pain.
It is heartbreaking.

But in many cases, it does not come without warning.

Often, the body may have been sending signals—subtle signs that were overlooked or misunderstood.

So let’s take a moment to understand what is commonly referred to as Slump and Die Syndrome (medically known in many cases as Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome – SADS).

Think of it this way:

You buy a new generator.
The fuel tank is full.
The engine is clean.

But the internal wiring sparks—and everything shuts down instantly.

That is how SADS can happen.

The body may look healthy on the outside.
But internally, the heart’s electrical system may fail without warning.

Why it is difficult to detect

Before it happens, a person may experience:

Fainting during exercise

A heart that beats unusually fast or irregularly

A family history of sudden, unexplained death

And sometimes…

There may be no clear signs at all.

That is why caution is never wasted.

If you feel persistent chest discomfort, unusual heartbeats, extreme stress, or unexplained fainting—seek medical attention immediately.

Early evaluation can save a life.

If this information has helped you, please share it with someone you care about.

Because awareness can be the difference between life and loss.

Valentine’s Day is over… and now you’re wondering if that “love adventure” might bring junior. 👀

Well, considering how the body works, it doesn’t automatically mean you’re pregnant — especially if you took precautions before the trip.

But to avoid unnecessary worry and guesswork, here are 3 ways to gain clarity:

1. Use a urine pregnancy test
You can only rely on this after your period has missed its expected date. Testing too early may give inaccurate results.

2. Get a blood pregnancy test
This can detect pregnancy earlier than a urine test and even measures the exact pregnancy hormone (hCG) level.

3. Wait for your period
Sis, panic after just 2 days is not necessary. The body needs time. The most reliable early sign is a missed period.

If you do miss your period — congratulations! You’re warmly welcome to join our Antenatal Saturdays. 💙

And if you’re not pregnant after all, next time use protection… so your blood pressure doesn’t rise because of worry.

There’s something Nigerians don’t like to hear:

Your blood pressure does not care that you are hardworking.
It does not care that you are chasing money.
It does not care that “stress is normal.”

One doctor was 27 years old, standing in a maternity ward, blood pressure **180/120**.
Another man saw **202/170** during an outreach — a “walking dead,” the nurse said.
One mother moved away from stress, changed her diet, and her numbers dropped from **198/120 to 118/70**.

Then on the other side — people fainting in airports, collapsing at night, dizzy for days — because their blood pressure was too *low*.

High or low, one thing is clear:

**Your body whispers before it screams.**

Headaches you call stress.
Dizziness you blame on fasting.
Fatigue you excuse as hustle.
Palpitations you ignore because “I’m still young.”

Until one day, the numbers shock you.

Here’s the truth Nigerians need to talk about more:

Medication helps.
But lifestyle sustains.
And early checks prevent regret.

At Rose Specialist Hospital, we’ve seen the quiet ones — the strong men who “don’t fall sick,” the busy women who “don’t have time,” the young professionals who say, “It can’t be me.”

It can be you.
It can be anyone.

So let’s ask openly:

Have you ever checked your blood pressure and been shocked by the result?
Was it high? Was it low? What changed for you after that moment?

Share your experience. Someone reading it might decide to check theirs today.

If a doctor tells you that you have a “weak heart,” he doesn’t mean you can’t handle "BREAKFAST".

It means your heart is not pumping blood as effectively as it should. When this happens, the body may not receive enough oxygen and nutrients, and over time, this can lead to heart failure if not properly managed.

A weak heart often shows warning signs. These include:

Shortness of breath – Difficulty breathing during mild activity, when lying flat, or waking up at night feeling breathless.

Swelling (edema) – Noticeable swelling in the feet, ankles, legs, or sometimes the abdomen due to fluid retention.

Unusual fatigue – Feeling excessively tired even after minimal activity.

Rapid or irregular heartbeat – A sensation of racing, pounding, or fluttering in the chest.

Persistent cough or wheezing – Especially when accompanied by white or pink-tinged mucus.

Sudden weight gain – Often caused by fluid buildup in the body.

These symptoms should never be ignored.

Early medical evaluation can prevent complications and improve long-term outcomes.

If you notice any of these signs, please visit the nearest hospital or speak with a qualified healthcare professional for proper assessment and care.

Experienced mums—what food finally worked for you in your first trimester?

Your kidney has been warning you, but you didn’t listen.

It’s only when you finally saw blood in your urine that you ran to the hospital shouting,
“Doctor! Doctor! I am dying!”
Don’t worry—we’re here to treat you and make sure you get better. That’s our job.

Since we’re on the matter, here are 6 kidney warning signs your body may have been showing you—but you ignored:

1. Swelling in the morning
You woke up and noticed your eyes, hands, feet, ankles, or legs were swollen.
But you said, “Na that jollof rice,” “I carried something heavy,” or “I trekked yesterday.”
Hmm… let me not talk.

2. Constant tiredness
You feel weak and tired all the time, but you conclude,
“I just need rest. Life is stressful.”

3. Loss of appetite
Suddenly food doesn’t interest you.
You say, “My spirit is telling me to fast.”
Aunty, Brother—what your body is saying might be a kidney issue.

4. Pain by your side or lower ribs
You feel discomfort, then say,
“Chai, I really need to exercise more.”

5. Changes in urination
Your urine behaves like NEPA—today plenty, tomorrow small.
Sometimes it’s foamy like you drank Omo.
(Yes, Google and ChatGPT didn’t tell you this part clearly.)

6. Blood in urine
This one finally scared you—and brought you to the hospital.

👉 Bottom line:
No sign is too small or too big to check. If you notice any of these, don’t wait—visit the nearest hospital immediately. Early detection can save your kidneys and your life.
