🩸Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA), or “stroke,” is a sudden interruption of blood supply to the brain

❗Immediate intervention is needed!
Act FAST:
F = Facial droop
A= Arm weakness
S= Speech difficulty
T = Time! (it’s CRUCIAL to act quickly and note the time of symptom onset)

🧠CT scans and MRIs must be performed prior to initiation of therapy. WHY? Because the TYPE of CVA determines treatment!

⏰Knowing the TIME when stroke symptoms started is critical for thrombolytic therapy, which is time-sensitive. Treatment options become limited.

🩸Thrombolytic therapy is NOT indicated for a Hemorrhagic Stroke due to the increased risk of bleeding in the brain.

🩸Hemorrhagic Stroke treatment: locate the source of the bleed, surgical clip to relieve pressure, and close off the bleed.

And always remember: TIME & TYPE determine TREATMENT! 🙂

*Auscultation of the heart*

Definition:
Auscultation of the heart is the process of listening to the heart sounds using a stethoscope to assess the heart's function and detect any abnormalities. It is a crucial skill in clinical practice and provides valuable insights into the condition of the cardiovascular system.

Purpose of Heart Auscultation
1. Assessing Heart Rate and Rhythm: To detect tachycardia, bradycardia, or arrhythmias.

2. Evaluating Heart Sounds: To distinguish normal and abnormal heart sounds.

3. Identifying Murmurs: To detect valve dysfunction or structural abnormalities.

4. Monitoring for Disease: To evaluate for conditions like heart failure, endocarditis, or congenital defects.

Equipment Required
A stethoscope (preferably with a diaphragm and a bell for detailed listening).

Techniques for Heart Auscultation
Preparation:
1. Ensure the patient is in a quiet room.
2. Have the patient undress to expose the chest area.
3. Position the patient in a supine, sitting, or left lateral decubitus position for optimal listening..
