IMO FIRST LADY SUPPORTS COLORECTAL CANCER AWARENESS

The Imo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Chioma Egu, represented the First Lady, Her Excellency Barr. Chioma Uzodimma, FIMC, CMC, at a Colorectal Cancer Awareness Programme.

Marked by the blue ribbon and bow tie, the event was hosted by the David Omenukor Foundation in collaboration with the Nigerian Cancer Society, Imo State.

Dr. Egu highlighted the importance of early detection, regular screening, and healthy lifestyles, reiterating the First Lady’s commitment to health advocacy through the GoodHope Women Flourish Initiative and First Ladies Against Cancer (FLAC).

IMO HEALTH COMMISSIONER LEADS TB AWARENESS DRIVE, COMMENDS FIRST LADY’S SUPPORT

The Imo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Chioma Egu, on Tuesday led the World Tuberculosis Day commemoration in Owerri, calling for sustained action to eliminate TB.

The programme, organised by the Office of the First Lady of Imo State and the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with NTBLCP and the Catholic Caritas Foundation of Nigeria, featured a road walk and free TB screening to promote awareness and early detection.

Dr. Egu commended Her Excellency, Barr. Chioma Uzodimma, FIMC, CMC, First Lady of Imo State and Founder, GoodHope Women Flourish, for her strong support.

She announced that free screening is on going in health facilities across the state, urged residents to watch for symptoms and seek early diagnosis, emphasizing that TB is curable and preventable.

She reaffirmed the state’s commitment to a TB-free Imo, in line with the theme, “Yes! We Can End TB.”

IMO HEALTH COMMISSIONER COMMENDS SEYI TINUBU OVER DRUG BANK DONATION

The Imo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Chioma Egu was present at the unveiling of a drug bank for indigent patients at the Imo State Specialist Hospital Umuguma by Seyi Tinubu on behalf of the City Boy Movement.

Dr. Chioma Egu commended the generous donation, noting that it will strengthen healthcare delivery, especially for pregnant women and children. She added that the initiative aligns with the healthcare vision of Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration and assured that the drugs will be used judiciously to support those who need them most.

The movement also paid for the enrollment of 500 pregnant women into the state’s health insurance program.

The Imo State Ministry of Health and Social Services led by the Honorable Commissioner, Dr. Chioma Egu has successfully hosted the Graduation Ceremony of the Nigeria Health Fellowship (NHF) Cohort I and the formal onboarding of Cohort II, bringing together key stakeholders from government, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, and development partners committed to strengthening Nigeria’s health system.

In delivering her keynote address, the Honourable Commissioner for Health and Social Services, Dr. Chioma Egu, highlighted the importance of investing in leadership development to drive sustainable improvements in healthcare delivery.

Representing the Executive Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, the Deputy Governor, Lady Chinyere Ekomaru, PhD, reaffirmed the state government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the health sector through capacity building, strategic partnerships, and innovative programmes.

The event concluded with the official graduation of NHF Cohort I Fellows and the onboarding of Cohort II, marking another significant step toward building a new generation of health leaders dedicated to improving health outcomes in Imo State and across Nigeria.

IMO HEALTH COMMISSIONER – DR. CHIOMA EGU: AN ILLUSTRATION OF WHAT A WOMAN SHOULD BE

The celebration of International Women’s Day reminds us of the invaluable role women play in building families, institutions and society at large. Across the world, women continue to demonstrate strength, compassion and commitment in different fields of human endeavour.
In Imo State today, one clear example of this is the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Chioma Egu. Through her dedication and sense of responsibility, she has continued to demonstrate what purposeful leadership by a woman truly represents.

Working under the mandate and vision of the Executive Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, Dr. Chioma Egu has shown unrelenting commitment towards improving the health sector in the state. Her efforts in strengthening healthcare delivery and supporting programmes that promote the wellbeing of the people have continued to bring renewed focus to the health system of Imo State.
