How to perform breast self-examination:
Step 1: In the shower
• Use soapy hands to feel each breast
• Use flat fingers, not fingertips
• Move in circular motions from outside to center
• Feel for lumps, thickening, or changes
Step 2: In front of mirror
• Look at both breasts with arms at sides
• Then with arms raised overhead
• Then with hands pressed on hips
• Look for changes in size, shape, dimpling, or ni**le changes
Step 3: Lying down
• Put pillow under right shoulder
• Use left hand to examine right breast
• Then switch sides
When to do it: Once a month, same time each month (after your period ends)
Warning signs to report immediately:
• New lump or thickening
• Change in breast size or shape
• Dimpling or puckering of skin
• Ni**le discharge (especially bloody)
• Redness or scaling of ni**le or breast skin
• Pain in one area that doesn’t go away
Remember: Most breast lumps are NOT cancer, but you must get checked.
Check yourself monthly, report any changes immediately. At AfriPharma, we support women’s health.
