A patient of mine came back to tell me he was drinking bitter leaf therefore he didn't need to take his medications or reduce his carbohydrate intake or exercise.
I tried to counsel him but he refused.
Only for him to come back in 2 weeks, he has lost weight, he was pale, and he had bilateral leg swelling and periorbital swelling. He told me he needs a medical report to present to his company stating that he was fit to work.
I told him God forbid, that I will forsake my 7 years of training and lose my licence.
I told him, that the only letter I will be giving him is a referral letter to the teaching hospital for multidisciplinary management.
Please guys be wise . Don't guess work with your health
“But DOF, didn’t you drag people for drinking bitterleaf last year?”
Yes. And I stand by it.
Because context matters.
That post was calling out people who think bitter = blood sugar cure.
People drinking bitterleaf after eating puff puff and Coke, expecting it to cancel out nonsense.
That’s not healing. That’s delusion.
Now here’s the difference:
When I talk about bitter herbs now, I’m talking from a full protocol perspective.
With real food.
With insulin strategy.
With bile support.
With gut repair.
Not magical thinking.
So if you saw that old post after posting your bitterleaf extract — and felt attacked — maybe it wasn’t even about you.
Or maybe it was.
Either way, here’s the truth:
Bitter herbs can support healing.
But they don’t erase poor choices.
You can’t be drinking vinegar and bitterleaf like detox shots and still be eating rice morning, afternoon, night.
So let’s be clear:
I’m still against shortcut madness.
I’m still against sugar with side of herbs.
I’m still against one-cure-for-all TikTok logic.
But I will forever defend using bitterleaf, scent leaf, uyayak, and dandelion the right way — as part of a healing plan, not a magic bullet.
Context is everything.
Stop screenshotting your way into confusion.
Don’t forget to reach out for a proper diet plan.
Not vibes and vinegar.
