Yesterday, I was honoured to represent the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (rtd) to officially launch and flag off the the optimized maternal, new born and child health week (oMNCHW) for pregnant women, mothers, children, new born and care givers. It was great to be accompanied by the Executive Secretary, Rivers State Primary Health Care board - Prof. kinikanwo Green, Sole Administrator PHALGA - Dr Sam Kalagbor, all directors present, hospital management board, primary healthcare management board, our supportive partners - W.H.O, UNICEF, CHAI and IHVN etc.
✅Aims — We aim to enhance maternal health care and to reduce maternal mortality through improved prenatal and post natal outcomes.
We urge parents to continue providing a nurturing environment to ensure timely vaccination, proper nutrition and seeking medical care when needed.
✅key objectives — The program will help to boost maternal and child health initiatives aim at reducing maternal mortality through comprehensive prenatal, delivery, and postnatal care, enhance newborn and child health via immunization and nutrition programs, and promote community engagement to raise awareness and improve healthcare practices in rivers state.
✅Strategies; This term reflects the holistic approach of combining various elements—such as healthcare partnerships, workforce development, performance evaluation, and community involvement—to create a cohesive and effective healthcare system.
✅Advantage; Essential maternal and child health services encompass routine antenatal care, micronutrient supplementation, immunization, breastfeeding education, and HIV prevention to ensure the well-being of mothers and their babies.
By participating in this program, mothers and babies can benefit from early detection and treatment of health issues, leading to improved health outcomes and reduced risks of preventable illness, reduce maternal, newborn and child death to the barest minimum thereby fostering a healthier future for all.
