What is dehydration;?
When an individual uses or looses more fluids than he/she takes in , therefore resulting to a reduced level of body fluids; such a condition is referred to as DEHYDRATION and such a person is said to be DEHYDRATED.
HOW DO I GET DEHYDRATED??
the ways to which an individual can loose fluids from the body include the following:
-Strenous exercise
-Vomiting
-Diarrhoea
-Fever
The mentioned circumstances are majorly and the most common ways of loosing body fluids.
As your body looses fluids, it also looses electrolytes, this will affect the way your muscles and nerves work . It can go further to affect SLEEP (our major concern)
HOW DOES DEHYDRATION AFFECT SLEEP!!??
Chronic dehydration can reduce levels of essential amino acid , which are needed to produce MELATONIN (sleep hormone),thereby throwing off circadian rhythm making it difficult to stay asleep.
HOW DO I KNOW WHEN I AM DEHYDRATED??
-Intense feeling of thirst
-Dark yellow and smelling urine
-Dizzy feeling or lightheaded
-Dry mouth, lips & eyes
-little urine , fewer than four times a day
-listleness or irritability
HOW DO I STAY HYDRATED.
-The best way Is to drink plenty water(especially at hot climate or working under the sun)
Drink between 6 and 8 cups a day
-Eat balanced diet (includes fruits and vegetables that contain large amount of water, salt and vitamins)
-Limit Alcohol, coffee and caffeinated drinks (they are diuretics, therefore, they leach out water out ).
