HIV Prevention through Pre-exposure prophylaxis

_Some facts you should know_ 👇

- Pre-exposure prophylaxis, PrEP is the use of Antiretroviral drugs by HIV uninfected persons to prevent the acquisition of HIV before exposure to HIV.

- It is needed during periods of high HIV risk and can be discontinued if you feel you are no longer at risk of exposure to HIV.

- It is a supplement rather than a replacement for condoms.

- It is not meant to replace or be a substitute for existing interventions

- The World Health Organization, WHO recommends that PrEP should be offered as an additional prevention choice for people at substantial risk of HIV infection as part of HIV Prevention.

NEWS

The Bayelsa State Agency for the Control of AIDS, BYSACA is calling on residents of the state to be wary of HIV as the disease is still prevalent in all local government areas of the state.

BYSACA urges all residents of Bayelsa state to be cautious in their s*xual activities during the yuletide as s*xual transmission is still the highest form of contracting HIV.

Remember that the use of condoms is highly recommended as a means of preventing HIV also, the use of Pre-exposure prophylaxis, PrEP and Post exposure prophylaxis is advised for those at high risk of contracting HIV.

However, also remember that being HIV positive is not a death sentence! With the consistent use of Antiretroviral, the virus can be suppressed, made undetectable and untransmittable.
