I really think pharmacists should allowed to go to ward rounds along with Doctors especially in emergency wards Because this will help to reduce the rate of avoidable mistakes that may be encountered in hospitals sometimes.

This is not say Doctors don’t have much knowledge as pharmacists as regards effects of drugs.
This is because Doctors have a lot of things to think of during ward rounds. but, pharmacists will mainly be focused on effects of drugs been used and this will help to reduce the load on Doctors. because, two heads are better than one

Has PSN, ACPN, or any other stakeholder in Pharmacy examined the clause in the anti-abortion bill that is before the national assembly? My rudimentary understanding, from media commentaries, is that the bill prescribes 5 years imprisonment for anyone who "supplies" an abortifacient.

This seems to me, a trap for pharmacists. What if they supply a drug which ought to be used for a therapeutic purpose but unbeknownst to them, it is to be used for abortion? For example, mifepristone is used in Cushing's syndrome and termination of pregnancy less than 70 days. What exculpates the pharmacist?

💨 Let’s Talk About the Famous Blue Inhaler — VENTOLIN!

If you have asthma, you probably know this little blue buddy 💙 — the Ventolin inhaler (also called Salbutamol).
It’s the one people grab when their chest tightens, breathing becomes hard, or they start wheezing like a whistle. But here’s the real gist 👇

🫁 What Ventolin Does

✅ It relaxes your airway muscles – Think of your airways like narrow roads during traffic. Ventolin comes in like a traffic warden 🚦, clearing the way so air can flow freely again.

✅ It gives quick relief – It’s your “rescue inhaler” 🦸‍♂️. Within minutes, it opens up your lungs and helps you breathe better.

✅ It stops asthma attacks in progress – Whenever you feel chest tightness, coughing, or wheezing, Ventolin quickly brings things under control.

🚫 What Ventolin Does NOT Do

❌ It doesn’t treat the root cause of asthma.
It’s like putting out a fire alarm 🔥 but not fixing what caused the fire in the first place.

❌ It doesn’t prevent future attacks.
That’s the job of your controller or preventer inhaler (usually a steroid inhaler like beclomethasone, budesonide, or fluticasone).

❌ It shouldn’t be overused.
Using Ventolin too often (more than 3–4 times a week) means your asthma is not well controlled and you need to see your doctor.

👥 Who Should Be Using Ventolin

Ventolin is for:
• People with asthma who need quick relief when symptoms strike
• Those who experience exercise-induced asthma (use it before workouts 🏃‍♀️)
• Asthma patients who are already on a preventer inhaler but still need an emergency backup

⚠️ Quick Tip

If you find yourself depending on Ventolin every day, your asthma is waving a red flag 🚩 — it’s time for a review with your healthcare provider. You may need a preventer inhaler added to your plan.

💬 In Short:

Ventolin = Quick relief.
Preventer inhaler = Long-term control.
Use them together for a breath of fresh life! 💙💨

Not Every Fruit Is Safe:
See How Grapefruit Can Turn Your MEDICINE into POISON

Grapefruit Juice + Medications 💊 ❌

How does grapefruit turn your drugs into poisons?

Grapefruit contains furanocoumarins, which irreversibly inhibit intestinal CYP3A4 (which is the enzyme that metabolize / breaks down most drugs in your body. what this means is that the drugs in your body at that time will no longer be broken down as supposed.
This leads to reduced first-pass metabolism and increased bioavailability of some drugs. Which means the drugs will remain in your body for a longer duration than expected .
Remember all drugs are also POISONS

which Drugs are most likely to be affected ?

1. Statins. Used in the management of cholesterol (e.g., simvastatin, atorvastatin)
2. Calcium channel blockers. Used in the management of high blood pressure (e.g., felodipine, Amlodipine, Nifedipine etc)
3. Immunosuppressants (e.g., cyclosporine)
4. Some benzodiazepines. Used in the management of anxiety, insomnia , seizure , epilepsy etc

Adverse Effects:

1. Toxicity from high plasma levels
2. Muscle breakdown (with statins)
3. Hypotension or bradycardia/ reduced heart rate (with calcium channel blockers)
4. Sedation or confusion (with benzodiazepines )

Conclusion: always take your medications 💊 with just water 💦. Do not take medications along with anything otherwise recommended by your doctor/ pharmacist. Because even your natural foods like fruit 🍎 and turn your drugs into toxic substances

MEDICATIONS THAT SHOULD NEVER BE USED TOGETHER
Episode 2

Antibiotics + Birth Control Pills

Mechanism of Action:

Oral contraceptives use estrogen and progestin to inhibit ovulation via suppression of LH/FSH.

Some antibiotics (e.gRifampin) induces cytochrome P450 enzymes (especially CYP3A4) → increases metabolism of contraceptive hormones.

Interaction:
Decreases plasma levels of estrogen/progestin → risk of ovulation and pregnancy.

Adverse Effects:
Unplanned pregnancy
Menstrual irregularities
Anxiety/stress over contraceptive failure

Note: Most antibiotics don’t reduce birth control effectiveness—rifampin and similar enzyme inducers are the main concern.
