*Installation of brand new Dialysis facilities at Abia Specialist Hospital and Diagnostic Center*

With the support of our dear Governor, Dr Alex Otti (OFR) we have installed brand new Nipro dialysis machines, dialysis chairs, water treatment plant and reverse osmosis machines and have renovated our dialysis center to standard.

I hereby call on us to utilize our services; and to the Medical Community to refer patients with kidney disease to our facility for dialysis and care.
Our clinic is on Tuesdays

*Dialysis* is Monday to Fridays (booked), 8am to 4pm with provision for emergencies as need arises.

The leadership of Umuoparaozara Autonomous Community, Olokoro, Umuahia, has paid a courtesy visit to one of their illustrious sons, Dr. Chimezie Godswill Okwuonu, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Abia State Specialist Hospital and Diagnostic Centre, Umuahia, on the 11th day of October 2024. The visit was in recognition of Dr. Okwuonu’s outstanding achievements in the healthcare sector, both locally and internationally.

World Hepatitis Day is observed every July of the year, the 2024 World Hepatitis Day is on July 28th. Presents a pivotal moment to reflect on the global strides and ongoing challenges in combating viral hepatitis. This year's theme is " is time for Action" underscores the critical importance of liver health and the need for a unified global efforts to eliminate hepatitis as a public health threat .

Hepatitis is a medical condition characterized by the inflammation of the liver. It can be caused by various factors, including viral infections excessive alcohol consumption, certain medications, toxins and autoimmune diseases. The most common causes of hepatitis are viral infections, specifically hepatitis A, B, C, D and E viruses. Each type of viral hepatitis has district modes of transmission, symptoms and treatments.

Hepatitis, particularly B and C remains a significant global health issue, affecting hundreds of millions of people and leading to serious condition such as liver cirrhosis and liver cancer. Despite the availability of effective vaccines and treatments, hepatitis continues to be a silent killer, often progressing unnoticed until it reaches advanced stages.

In recent years, there have been notable advancements in hepatitis prevention and treatment. The expansion of vaccination programs particularly for hepatitis B, has had a significant impact. Drastically reducing new infections among children, additionally the development of direct action antivirals (DAAS) for hepatitis C has revolutionized treatment, offering care rates above 90 percent.
