Good morning family. As a Speech and Language therapist who has been practicing for over 7 years now and thus has encountered a good number of children with varying degrees of neurodevelopmental delay/disorders, it will be my pleasure to sometimes enlighten us about what neurodevelopmental disorders are. It is really a broad term, an umbrella term that covers a long list of disorders in children
I am emphatic about children because even if these might be present in adulthood, it definitely started at childhood, probably no intervention was sought and as a result followed them to adulthood.

Self-help skills are abilities children gradually attain to give them more independence. This includes eating, dressing, toileting, bathing, un******ng and anything else you do everyday. Children with neurodevelopmental disorders might find it challenging do all these activities compared to their age mates. A typical child might not need specific training in some of these activities but might just grow and develop mentally enough to help themselves to a large extent with minimal assistance. Special needs children would need active help to get them to learn all these skills and that's where the service of an occupational therapist comes into play. The child's care giver can also help to teach the child these daily living skills. These children need more time, attention and effort if they have to make significant progress. Early intervention is always a major factor in how well the child will eventually do hence once you observe that your child's self-help skills is below what is expected of his age, seek the right intervention immediately
