N:B- A simple wound (e.g sharp cut) has the potential of healing by itself (first intention) where the physiological status of the body is normal.
However it can become complex/complicated when infection sets in or there is an underlying disease condition (e.g diabetes mellitus).
In the absence of any complication, the following can be done when there is a simple cut;

1. Apply a little pressure with a clean cloth or a piece of gauze till the bleeding stops
2. Clean the area with normal saline (clean water where normal saline is not available) to remove debris
3. Use an antimicrobial with a light dressing to cover the wound
4. Change the dressings 48-72 hours or when dirty; healing should take place in few days depending on the extent of the cut.
5. Watch for signs of infection (smell, drainage, tenderness, delayed healing) and report to an expert.
