After a successful world AIDS week, in which we appreciated God's goodness in our various lives on the 1st of December in our various parishes, on Monday, 2nd December, 2024 the director of PCS&D, Rev Ikpo Uduma Ugbaga, had a talk on a a very interesting topic: "CHILD PROTECTION AND SAFEGUARDING" with the Staffs and Case Managers of PCS&D and other important personalities who joined the meeting online.

He defined CHILD PROTECTION or SAFEGUARDING as the measures and structures to prevent and respond to abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence affecting children.

He also stated that the goals of child protection and safe guarding is to promote and fulfill the rights of children to protection from abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence, to ensure the fulfillment of other children's rights including children's rights to survival, right to development and right to participation etc.
Child protection matters because we need to ensure children's rights are not violated, to prevent early death among children, to help children reach their potentials, to serve as major driver of equity and equality and to promote economic growth.

We are therefore advised to ensure that every child whether girl or boy is protected and safeguarded no matter the setting he or her may be.

Today Day 4

We will be observing Bible study on a topic
GOD LOVES US EQUALLY
Text: Romans 8:28_39
Memory verse: 1 John 4: 10 (NIV)
This is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

This study points us to the fact that nothing can take away the love of God from us

Today we are please advised to handle this very important topic in our various parishes.

Greetings from the PresbyAIDS unit of the Presbyterian Community Services and Development (PCS&D)

The 2024 world AIDS week programme is scheduled to hold November 25th to December 1, 2024 with the theme: SECURE THE FUTURE, STOP HIV IN CHILDREN. This is a deliberate emphasis by the PCS & D to bring children to the fire in the fight against HIV.

The aim of the week-long programme is to encourage everybody and every member of the Church and the society at large to:
1. know their HIV status
2. Know the status of their children
3. Ensure that they do not expose themselves, their children or others to HIV infection
4. Know how to prevent HIV infection in children
5. To encourage and ensure that those who are infected are linked to treatment, are adhering to treatment and that they achieve viral suppression.

We are also encouraged within this period to prevent the transmission of mother to child. Mother to child transmission is the most common route for the transmission of pediatric HIV.

The advancement of PMTCT program in Nigeria is a key to eliminating new HIV infections among children.

We urge you to support the work of the Presbyterian Community Services and Development (PCS &D) by making your contributions to meet our various needs according to your ability.

WORLD TOILET DAY

A Toilet is a piece of sanitary hardware that collects human waste such as urine and f***s, and sometimes toilet paper, usually for disposal. Flush toilets use water, while dry or non-flush toilets do not. In urban areas, flush toilets are usually connected to a sewer system; in isolated areas, to a septic tank. The waste is known as blackwater and the combined effluent, including other sources, is sewage. Dry toilets are connected to a pit, removable container, composting chamber, or other storage and treatment device, including urine diversion with a urine-diverting toilet.

In private homes, depending on the region and style, the toilet may exist in the same bathroom as the sink, bathtub, and shower. Products like urinal blocks and toilet blocks help maintain the smell and cleanliness of toilets.

Historically, sanitation has been a concern from the earliest stages of human settlements. However, many poor households in developing countries use very basic, and often unhygienic, toilets – and nearly one billion people have no access to a toilet at all; they must openly defecate and urinate. These issues can lead to the spread of diseases transmitted via the fecal-oral route, or the transmission of waterborne diseases such as cholera and dysentery. Therefore, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 wants to "achieve access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all and end open defecation".

Today, the world Toilet Day, we are rightly advised that living healthy is also tied to the kind of place we defecate and ensuring that it is properly cleaned and well kept as it helps to enhance our chance of living healthy, stronger and longer.

The Presbyterian community services and development encourages individuals, families and the society at large to always use the appropriate place to defecate and to also keep it clean so as to promote adequate sound living and avoid the spread of diseases all over the places just as God in psalms 91: 16 has assure us that he will satisfy us with long live and show us his salvation, we on our part are to take up the proper responsibilities so his words manifest in our lives.

Happy Children's Day!

Today, all of us at PCS&D celebrate the incredible gift of children and the countless ways they enrich our lives. Children are a blessing from above, filling our hearts with love, laughter, and purpose. They remind us of the beauty of innocence, the power of curiosity, and the importance of play. With their smiles and hugs, they bring light to our darkest moments and hope to our brightest days.

A very important fact about Children is that they teach us to live in the present, to appreciate the small things, and to find joy in the everyday moments. They inspire us to be better versions of ourselves, to chase our dreams, and to make a difference in the world. Their laughter is contagious, their hugs are comforting, and their love is unconditional, little wonder the Bible enjoins us to "have the heart of children".

Happy Children's Day to all our beautiful and lovely PCN children.. May God continue to protect and keep them.
