Alhamdulilah, it went well ...

On the 27th of April 2024, we launched Muslimah Nurses Hub (MNH), a community dedicated to uniting and empowering Muslimah Nurses.

Yesterday, 31st of May 2024, we had our first-ever webinar, titled "Navigating Nursing Career Abroad; A Guide for Muslimah Nurses"

It was an amazing and mind-blowing session. Our Speakers are Seasoned Nurses based in the UK and KSA respectively.

No stone was left unturned. It was presented in simple, clear, and understandable terms. Everyone's questions were answered as our audience gained more clarity.

My team and I did a thing 🫰. BarokaLlhau feekum to us. The time frame was short but we did it anyway.

Our attendees can attest that they gained much more value, and that too for free.

This is our way of giving back to the Ummah.

We apologize for anywhere we made mistakes and we seek Allah's forgiveness.

You can look out for more from Muslimah Nurses Hub.Until then, Stay tuned💜

Trust is one of the greatest gifts that you can receive from your patients.

In appreciation of this great gift, never lie to a patient about a procedure, on the basis of trying to alley anxiety.

If a procedure is painful, let the patient know that it is painful but there are measures to relieve the pain.

Don't throw away your Nursing principle of veracity, which requires you to tell the truth.

Breach of trust usually outweighs the benefits derived from lying to alley your patients’ anxiety.

Mentorship plays a crucial role in the development and success of nurses and nursing students, fostering a supportive learning environment and promoting excellence in patient care.

Let me break it down for you:

So, picture this: You're in the thick of nursing school or just starting out as a nurse. It can get pretty intense, right?

That's where mentors swoop in to save the day. They're like your personal cheerleaders, offering advice and support when the going gets tough.

Now, let's talk about skills. You know, those essential nursing skills that make you stand out? Mentors are like your Jedi masters, guiding you through the training process and helping you become the best nurse you can be.

Oh, and networking! Ever heard the phrase "it's not what you know, it's who you know"? Well, mentors are the ultimate connectors. They hook you up with all the right people and opportunities to take your career to the next level.

But wait, there's more! Mentors aren't just about the professional stuff. They're also role models, showing you what it means to be a compassionate and dedicated nurse. Plus, they give you that extra boost of confidence when you need it most.

And let's not forget personal growth. Mentors help you develop not just as a nurse, but as a person too. They teach you resilience, empathy, and self-awareness – all crucial qualities for providing top-notch patient care.

So, Mentorship isn't just important, it's essential for shaping the next generation of healthcare heroes.

A mentor, rather than helping you make decisions, guides you through the process. He/she points out the mistakes made and why you don't have to make the same mistakes.

A mentor helps you see all available options, the benefits and risks of each option, and guides you through choosing the one that suits you best.

Nursing is an emotionally demanding profession. You could spill out what you feel and express yourself to your mentor

Whatever you're doing in life, get yourself a Mentor. This makes the journey easier, though not without a storm.

Get yourself a Mentor and thank me later 👌

Our last post was about why you should quit taking Nescafe for studying.

But how can you stay awake without it?

My dear you don't have to stay awake all day, all night. You only have to discover what works for you.

I'll be sharing tips, but it's important you keep in mind that your determination, hard work, and consistency are the keys to an effective studying. The tips follow below 👇

====> Start with your mindset.

You believe you can't pass an exam if you don't stay awake day and Night. You need to have a mindset shift. It's not about quantity but quality. Just as they say, "It's not how far, but how well". All you need to do is to focus on efficient study and not long hours of studying. As long as you prepare well, irrespective of TDB, you'll perform excellently.

=====> Set clearly defined goals and action steps

"Clear goals provide the blueprint for success, guiding every step with purpose and clarity." When you have a goal, you take the necessary actions to achieve it. Let's take a look at an example 👇

Goal: This semester, I'll have above 90% in my course "XYZ"

Action Plan: I'll read 10 pages of my course material everyday and a 1hour research on each topic every day.

Everytime you set your eyes on XYZ, the alarm of above 90%, 10 pages, keeps ringing to your ears and you are more than ready to get to work!

====> Listen attentively in class. You'll be more kind to yourself by paying full attention to lectures because not all courses can be self-taught. Besides, your lecturer can give you additional insight and examples that you can relate with. You get to engage in interactive learning where you ask questions to aid your retention.

=====> Use of Pomodoro Technique
You don't have to study for long hours without breaks. To make it simple, if you're to study for 2 hours, study for 25 minutes, then take a 5 minutes break, then resume the cycle until you complete 2 hours

25:5, 25:5, 25:5, 25:5 =2 hours

====> The reward System

When you send any of your siblings on an errand, don't you promise to buy her biscuits or so?
Why not use the same system for yourself too?

Anytime you fulfill any of your goals or action plans, Reward yourselfz even with the littlest thing as a biscuit. You deserve it!

Example: "When I am done with 2 chapters of this book, I'll get myself a biscuit"

The reward can be anything from your personal preferences. You'll see yourself looking towards getting the action done on time so as to be rewarded.

====> Early Morning Routine
After your morning prayer, make a schedule to read for at least an hour or two before any other thing, and see your brain do wonders. At this morning period, your brain is yet to be filled with activities of the day, you get to read and assimilate well for that few hours.
As much as this depends on individual choices, this works really well for me. You might want to try it too.

====> Eat Well nourished food.
You're so fond of eating junk foods! Just because you're studying?
You need to eat healthy to increase your energy level and concentration level. It improves your overall cognitive functions.

====> Healthy sleeping habits.
Although, as medical students, we don't have this luxury,there are times your brain and body needs that rest to rejuvenate. Don't deny it that chance. A 30 minutes or 1 hour Nap is not too much to revitalize your brain and body.

====> Apply your Nursing process
Your Nursing process can be used, not only for your patients, but also in your daily life.

The first step, Assessment, involves taking a proper look at yourself, derive proper history and examine yourself physically, emotionally, socially, etc. It's a process of self awareness.

Ask yourself, "What am I good at?", "Where am I lacking?", "What time works for me?, What methods works for me?", "Do I understand this?"

Then, you Diagnose yourself. What's wrong with you?
Your diagnosis can include "I am an average student", "I am a morning reader", "I read better at night", etc.
At this stage, don't receive yourself. Don't tell yourself "I'm a night reader" and then end up sleeping even before 8pm. It won't do you any good.

The next step, Planning. From your diagnosis, plan your action steps. Plan your day by having a a to-do list, schedule and reschedule without missing out on your study plans. Your plan can look like "I'll finish this course in 1 week by reading 3 pages each day at 9am.
Write down your to-do list the night before the following morning to be mentally prepared for the day ahead. Be stingy with your time, use it wisely.

Then implement what you have planned. You've planned to read everyday at 9am, then Don't miss it! Be consistent.

Lastly, Evaluate. Were you able to achieve all your goals during the period of your time schedule? If yes, good for you! Put more effort.
If no, re-assess yourself. Why is it not working out? Are you missing a step? Do you need to add another?

End note
Discover what works for you. Be disciplined and consistent.

May 17

It's WORLD HYPERTENSION DAY

Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, is when the pressure of the blood being pumped through your arteries is higher than it should be.

High blood pressure or hypertension has been called the “silent killer”, because it often has no warning signs or symptoms, and many people do not even know they have it. Over time, the constant pressure overload causes accumulating damage that eventually becomes more than your circulatory system can handle, often leading to serious health problems.

When was the last time you checked your Blood pressure?

Some of you haven't even checked before.

It's never too late. Visit the nearest healthcare center and get yourself checked today.

The exam is approaching. You're struggling with staying awake TDB.

You've tried walking around for some time.

You've washed your face several times with water, hoping that the sleep will be washed off too. Delusion 😂

You've even dipped both legs in a bucket of water 😂

But sleep is overpowering you.

What next? Yes, NESCAFÉ to the rescue 🌚

I know many of you are guilty of this. You take NESCAFÉ to stay awake while studying for exams.

Ask yourself "Does it help?" "Do I assimilate anything while staying awake with Nescafé?

I have been there too. I used it due to peer influence. Did it help?

Oh, No! It didn't!

I admit that it made me stay awake, but I was reading my course materials without assimilating anything. It felt like I was reading a newspaper.

The day breaks and I experience a throbbing headache and struggle with getting back to sleep. I believe this happened because the Nescafé has yet to complete its mission.

What's even worse is dealing with this throbbing headache in the exam hall.

You know what's funny? Some people sleep immediately after taking the Nescafé.

The active Ingredient of Nescafé is Caffeine. Some of you even go to the extent of mixing with coke. Oshey, Chemistry Students!

Do you know how much damage you're causing for yourself?

I can boldly tell you that Nescafe does more harm than good. Read to see why you should quit Nescafe soonest 👇

Excessive Nescafe affects kidney functions such that you may have increased urine production and it increases your risk of kidney stones.

You suffer from insomnia. You can't even sleep when you want to sleep. Caffeine at work!

You're awake, Excellent! But you can't even assimilate what you're reading. What's the point?

You end up with a throbbing headache. Listen, your brain is not a computer, it deserves a moment of rest. After stressing yourself during the day, REST!!! before your TDB

Haven't you noticed Gastrointestinal disturbance when you take Nescafé? Are you still hiding under the umbrella of "it's my ulcer acting up?"

My dear, wake up and accept that Nescafe is doing more harm than good in your body.

In our next post, We'll be talking about tips to study effectively as a student nurse.

Be on the lookout.

Don't forget to share your experiences with Nescafé in the comment section below 👇
