My Day 2️⃣ Abstract presentation on the role of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in bridging the gaps in mental healthcare.

One key aspect of my abstract presentation is co-production and co-designing solutions that are tailored to the lived-realities and needs of the participants.

As much as there is growing interest for innovative digital health solutions, it is important to ask❔❓: Do these solutions reflect the realities of the populations we study? Are their voices adequately represented? Do they understand the language and terms we use? These determine how well a solution is accepted, owned, and sustained in the communities we serve.

🤝We must embrace participatory research and governance models that meaningfully engage affected communities and move beyond tokenistic inclusion particularly in global health solutions.

👩‍💻 Equally important is the need to invest in digital infrastructure and AI literacy, especially in low-resource settings.

💰 We also need inclusive research funding and policies that make room for context-specific innovations and capacity-building, particularly in underserved communities.

I really enjoyed speaking and connecting with others at this conference, looking forward to doing more 👏

AI in Global Health: Ethics Equity and Innovation 🌍

As a young early career public health professional, I have always wondered where to draw the line when it comes to the application of Artificial Intelligence in Global Health.

AI can be a double-edged sword with significant benefits and risks.

One of the most profound takeaways for me is that
‘AI can be the greatest equalizer but it can also be the worst divider of our times’

While AI has immense potential, it is there to aid our work as an amplifier not as a total replacement.

1️⃣Listening to keynotes by Professors Rifat Atun and Sanjay Kinra helped me unpack the terms and the underlying concepts and mechanisms of AI including machine learning, LLMs and predictions.
2️⃣The panel on ethical and regulatory considerations with Carleigh Krubiner Rohit Malpani Sian White and Peiling Yap helped clarify key questions around the ethical use of AI and the impact this has on global health both in practice and on paper.
3️⃣We also went on to discuss the impact of AI on Universities and Research Groups with Professors John Gyapong Prof Olaoluwa Akinwale Buddha Basnyat and it was really interesting to see that AI has come to stay and we must come up with policies, guidelines and strategies to guide its use even within our research institutions and move more towards application questions rather than routine memorization in assessing students comprehension.
4️⃣Lastly, we discussed the use of AI in R&D for global health with Danielle Belgrave Gita Khalili Moghaddam Craig Tipple which goes on to show how much innovation in global health has been shaped by AI and how we as humans can leverage AI as a tool to for continuous innovation in bridging gaps in healthcare

What do you think about the use of AI in global health? Let’s discuss in the comments⬇️

✨⭐️I am happy to announce that I was selected to present my abstract as one of the only two travel scholarship awardees at the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH) Annual Summit, in London, this September 2025.

This came at a time when I needed it the most in terms of the experience, exposure and network for my research career.

I am truly grateful to the RSTMH team members who supported me throughout my stay and every other attendees at the conference who made my stay memorable.

I am also grateful to the board members I met at the conference for their warmth and kind words.

📌Artificial Intelligence and digital technologies have come to stay and they form such a crucial part of health including adolescents and young people’s health that we must continue to leverage the available resources and scale our programs to reach everyone.

I am looking forward to bringing all the knowledge, experiences and skills gained at the conference to improve my work as a young researcher to continue to shape public health in Nigeria 🇳🇬 and beyond.

Today, I am shining the spotlight on our “Community Library Project.”📚📚🤩

It’s been a few years of running the community library, and the growth has been truly inspiring.

In working with young people, I have realized that many of the problems we seek to solve are interconnected—sometimes, solving one helps address another. That is how the Community Library Project was birthed.

As a young person who grew up reading a lot, I have seen how books have opened doors of opportunity for me. It breaks my heart daily to see children who cannot read or comprehend what they read.

I have come to realize that, oftentimes, it is not their fault. Some just do not have access to the right resources. So, I decided to *bring the books home to them*—and it has been a game changer! Even the little ones come to just read and play 💃💫

✅We have now grown from just reading for leisure and literacy to actually preparing for exams and engaging in intentional reading. I pray that all of this yields positive results when they eventually sit for external examinations.

Education is a great equalizer. While we may not have all the money to solve these children’s immediate needs, we are equipping them with the resources and tools to thrive as adults.

Here’s how you can support:
📚 Donate used or new books—we’ll give them a new home.
💰 Support with any amount to help us pay teachers. 6445861513, Moniepoint, Advocacy for Adolescent and Youth Health (AFAYHealth)
🤝 Volunteer to teach _ if you’re in Ibadan, Nigeria, please volunteer to join us every week for exam prep or reading to younger children.

In the future, we hope to introduce virtual classes with the right tools and resources. But for now, one step at a time👌!

This week, I stopped by to check on our Pad Bank and pick up questions from the question box—always an interesting experience! ✨ 💫✨ Peep one of the questions in the last frame 😊

The curiosity of these students reminds me why we do this work. Adolescence is a transition period filled with physical, biological, and emotional changes.

I am grateful for the safe space we’ve created in their schools to provide guidance, support, and answers to their questions.

Nearly two years into the PET for PAD project, we are tackling multiple challenges at once:
📚 Education – Keeping girls in school.
♻️Environmental sustainability – Recycling plastic bottles.
💡 Health – Providing answers and referrals where needed.

Every visit reaffirms the impact we are making, and we remain committed to ensuring no girl is left behind. 💜

Support our work by donating sanitary pads, we are also open to partnerships and collaboration.
