DRASA - Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh Health Trust We promote hygiene and adequate sanitation, reduce and prevent the spread of infectious diseases, and strengthen Nigeria’s preparedness for health emergencies

DRASA Health Trust is a public health organization working with government, local and international partners, community leaders, students, and health workers to promote hygiene and adequate sanitation, reduce and prevent the spread of infectious diseases, and strengthen Nigeria’s preparedness for health emergencies. DRASA was established in memory of the late Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh. She identified and contained Nigeria's first Ebola patient despite pressure from a foreign government to release him - preventing a major outbreak in Africa's most populous country - but lost her life in the process. Through DRASA, we continue her legacy of protecting public health.

Today, we join the global community in celebrating , which emphasizes the vital link between human, animal, and environmental health, because protecting one means protecting all.

At DRASA, we demonstrate this belief through all our initiatives, especially our Youth PALLI Fellowship. This fellowship empowers young professionals and youth-led organizations to champion One Health leadership to tackle challenges like antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and health emergency preparedness.

As we commemorate this day, we’re proud to spotlight this initiative, raising changemakers to shape a healthier, more resilient future for all.

Stay tuned for the Youth PALLI Hackathon in 2026, where fellows will showcase innovative One Health solutions.

The DRASA story began as a response to a crisis and then went on to become a cause that’s reshaping and building a resilient health system in Nigeria. This mission is born from courage, watered by commitment, and sustained by purpose.

Over the past 10 years, we have developed over 96,000 Health Champions. Our story is one of hope and the power of people protecting people.

Watch our journey unfold. This documentary features the stories of the early days, the challenges and victories, and, of course, the voices of our Health Champions.

We’re honored to have received a heartwarming congratulatory message from the Executive Director, Health Emergencies Program, at the World Health Organization, in celebration of our 10th Anniversary.

This message reaffirms our commitment to strengthening partnerships and collaborations that shape the future of health in Nigeria and beyond.

We believe that, together, we will build resilient health systems, improve the knowledge and capacity of people to protect themselves from infectious diseases, and protect communities.

Today, we remember the woman whose courage gave birth to DRASA Health Trust.

Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh’s sacrifice became the seed of our vision today. A vision to protect lives, strengthen health systems, and prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

Her legacy lives on in every Health Champion trained, every infection prevented, every policy supported, and every life saved.

Happy posthumous birthday, Dr. Adadevoh. Your courage continues to inspire a nation.

A Decade of Championing Health and Promoting Infection Prevention.

Thank you to everyone who celebrated this milestone with us. Your presence online and in person is a testament to the support that has fueled the impact that we have achieved over the last decade.

Just like our Managing Director, .williams , said, our vision for the next decade is simple: resilient clinics, reliable protocols, and empowered communities.

We picture a future where a woman walks into a clinic, coughing, and receives excellent care from professionals at a state-of-the-art isolation facility; a Community Health Champion trained by DRASA dispelling rumors about diseases and demonstrating hygiene with pride; and a youth representative from our network sitting on a national taskforce, advocating for stronger policies for the next generation; and overall, a Nigeria where prevention is everyone's business.

We invite you to stay with us on this journey to the next decade.

Thank you, and stay connected with us.

Protecting Health, Preventing Infections (2025).

What began with one woman’s sacrifice became a movement. Ten years later, her legacy continues through thousands of people working to keep Nigeria safe, healthy, and prepared.

Today, we celebrate that legacy, and everyone, our health workers, community Health Champions, school ambassadors, and even government stakeholders and partners who carry it forward.

It's a huge milestone for us, and we would love to celebrate with you. Click the link to join us live: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/85857090348?pwd=rdS1vgl2x2rOyrIshUpb9jxuw02PZW.1

It's just 1 day to 10 years😁

Protecting Health, Preventing Infections (2024).

Communities are the bedrock of any society and in 2024, among other activities, we went deep into communities, equipping community members and health workers on the necessary skills and knowledge to identify, prevent, report and protect themselves from infectious diseases.

Tomorrow, we celebrate with these Health Champions and you, friend of DRASA, who have been the fan to our flame. We can't wait to host you!

Our Story

Our name (DRASA) is an abbreviation of Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, the courageous doctor who diagnosed and contained the first case of Ebola in Nigeria though she had never seen an Ebola patient before. When threatened by Liberian officials who wanted the patient - a diplomat - to be discharged to attend a conference, she resisted the pressure and said, "for the greater public good" she would not release him. Her efforts prevented a major Ebola outbreak in Africa’s most populous country, but as a result she contracted the virus and lost her life.

DRASA was established to continue her legacy of protecting public health.
