I am extremely grateful to my very dear brother, Chief Engr.Owen Chamberlain Obaseki JP, for his very humbling birthday tribute (reproduced below).
As I celebrate my new age, I pray God to bless each and everyone of us. May joy, good health and progress remain our portion.
To God be the glory!!!
*TO DR.OSAHON ENABULELE AT 53.*
Where do you begin to celebrate a man who already became golden before the golden age of fifty? Where do you begin? A proud and erudite son of the Benin soil but, undoubtedly, an international personality who has traversed the globe and sown potent seeds in medical leadership terrains internationally.
Fifty-three years ago, when this enigma gained humble nativity, even Shakespeare’s three witches in Macbeth may have been unable to “look into the sands of time and say which grain will grow and which grain will not.”
Primary school in Benin, secondary school in FGC Wukari, Taraba State, and medical education at the prestigious University of Benin, Dr. Enabulele, fondly called the “lion killer” because of his resolute moral courage, has built for himself a gazebo of accomplishments that even an enemy would be proud of.
His resumé resembles the combined honours of three who’s who in the African medical world. And most of these he had accomplished even before he turned 40. What would you say about a man who cut his teeth in politics by winning the enviable position of President, University of Benin Medical Students Association as a medical student where he served from 1992 to 1994? From then, there was no stopping the "lion killer."
As Chairman, Edo state branch of Nigerian Medical Association, 2008 to 2010 and then President, Nigerian Medical Association, 2012 to 2014, his state and national status was firmly established. His international journey was launched in grand style as he became President, Commonwealth Medical Association, breaking a record by becoming the first Nigerian ever to be so elected President since the body was formed in November 1962! He was to become Coordinator, Coalition of African National Medical Associations (CANMA), made up of all National Medical Associations in the African region. Yet, he was not done.
It is important to note that Dr. Osahon Enabulele is the first Nigerian to ever sit on the Executive Committee of the World Medical Association since its inception in 1947. He is the first Nigerian ever to be elected Chairman, Socio-Medical Affairs Committee of the World Medical Association and a pioneer member of the Policy Review Committee of the same World Medical Association. He is also the very first West African to become the President of the *WORLD MEDICAL ASSOCIATION, WMA 1*
We celebrate a maestro, Chief Consultant Family Physician, UBTH; Fellow of the West African College of Physicians (FWACP) ; Life Member, Society of Family Physicians of Nigeria (SOFPON) and World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA).
You are indeed my hero, mentor and, undoubtedly, my Edo man of the decade. I salute your excellence. In this age when mediocrity is celebrated, mere wealth worshipped and political patronage elevated above excellence and merit, I derive uncommon joy from your unblemished records and wish more people would tow this line of recognising genuine quality accomplishments among us.
You are a citizen of the world by all standards and an amazing repertoire of knowledge and wisdom. We wish you more laurels as you enjoy your post-golden age existence. We are proud of the heritage you are establishing through your beautiful family comprising the lovely Professor (Mrs) Joan Enabulele, your precious wife, and your lovely children. We are proud that you are proudly Benin and we see in you an inspiration for young Benin professionals. You model, in the words of British poet Rudyard Kipling, the ability to “talk with crowds and keep your virtue” to “walk with Kings” and not “lose the common touch”.
Keep winning Sir.
Proudly celebrated by
Chief Engr.
Owen Chamberlain Obaseki JP,
*The Otaifoh of Uromi.*
