PELVIC INFLAMMATORY DISEASE AND INFERTILITY.

1. DEFINITION OF PID.
Pelvic inflammatory disease is an infection of female reproductive organs that affects the uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries. The infection usually spreads from the va**na to the uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries to cause PID.

2. CAUSES
Many bacteria can cause PID, but the most common are gonorrhea and chlamydia which are s*xually transmissible infections.
Other bacteria such as Gardnerella can also cause PID.

3. SYMPTOMS.
The symptoms may vary from one woman to another, and from mild to severe. When symptoms do occur, they may include:
➡️ Pain during or after s*x.
➡️ Pain when urinating.
➡️ Unpleasant va**nal discharge.
➡️ Severe abdominal pain.
➡️ Nausea and vomiting.
➡️ Fever.

4. COMPLICATIONS
If left untreated, PID can lead to:
➡️ Ectopic pregnancy.
➡️ Ovarian or tubal abscesses. If left untreated, this may cause serious life-threatening infections.
➡️ Infertility/sterility. This happens when PID damages reproductive organs. If the damage is irreversible, this will lead to sterility.
➡️ Chronic pelvic pain.

Exercise is your best bet on those days it feels like your uterus is in an earthquake, your back like it’s bent the wrong way, and your head like it is stuck under a metal gong. Trust me, you don’t want to remain under those covers; it may not get better that way.

Yoga stretches, for a start, can help relax your body and potentially reduce other symptoms like breast tenderness, muscular fatigue, and soreness.

Furthermore, aerobic exercises such as walking, swimming, and even biking that increase your heart rate, can soothe your period pains. The important thing is that you do it at least three times a week. Exercise that gets your heart pumping fast allows your body to release endorphins that help counteract the cramp-producing chemicals that are part of the menstrual cycle.

When on your period, it’s best advised you give up your sugary substances, swipe your coffee for healthy tea, and try to give your body a little bit more attention.

1. Prevent infection by wearing clean cotton panties.

2. Maintain strict perineal hygiene

3.Change pad frequently when menstruating

4. Avoid douching

5. Eat nutritious meals, reduce processed foods and increase fruits, vegetables and whole grain foods.

6. Plan your birth to prevent unwanted pregnancy. Talk to the family planning nurse

7. Treat infections promptly

8. Get a pap smear and other necessary investigations

9. When pregnant go for antenatal and adhere to your midwives advice

10.Avoid unsafe abortions.. talk to your health care provider

11. In case of any abnormal bleeding, fibroid etc. Consult your doctor. Avoid prescribed medications and concoctions.
