Strengthening Emergency Response:
Federal Road Safety Corps Partners with Akwa Ibom State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System for Basic Life Support Training
Yesterday, February 18, 2026, The Akwa Ibom State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (AKISEMSAS), conducted a Basic Life Support (BLS) training for officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Akwa Ibom State Command, to strengthen emergency response capacity across the state.
The training featured both short lecture sessions, and practical hands-on sessions facilitated by a consultant Anaesthetist and Intensive Care, University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Dr Anietie Ebu, assisted by the Dr Usen Usen, a Specialist Senior Registrar, Department of Anaesthesia, University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, and Medical personnel from AKISEMSAS and FRSC. Officers were equipped with essential life‑saving knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively to road traffic crashes and other medical emergencies.
The Hands-on session had 4 stations: CPR station, AED station, Ambulance evacuation, and a Discussion/ Q & A station.
During the CPR session, participants were trained on proper chest compressions, rescue breathing techniques, and how to manage an unresponsive victim experiencing cardiac arrest.
At the AED session, officers were shown the correct usage of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), including patient assessment, proper pad placement, and safe delivery of a shock when required.
The Ambulance Evacuation session focused on safe patient handling, stabilization, and coordinated movement of victims from accident scenes into ambulances without causing further injury.
The training concluded with a recap session where key lessons were reinforced and practical steps reviewed to ensure confidence and readiness.
The Sector Commander, Corps commander Francis Ajatta, in his welcome address high-lighted the positive colloboration between the FRSC and AKISEMSAS that co-incided with his posting to Akwa Ibom State command and charged Officers to continue to give assistance to AKISEMSAS during emergency responses.
Also, the Senor Special Assistant to the Governor on Emergency Medical Services and State Coordinator, AKISEMSAS, Dr Jacob Etiemana, appreciated his Excellency Pastor Umo Eno PhD, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State for prioritising the safety of everyone in Akwa Ibom State through an improved State medical emergency response.
The AKISEMSAS boss also appreciated the Honorable Commissioner for his continuous efforts in organising and approving trainings for AKISEMSAS staff to increase the knowledge depth, preparing them as trainers. He concluded by appreciating the Lead facilitator, Dr Anietie Ebu and her medical team for volunteering to impact her skills to train more first responders in Akwa Ibom State
This collaboration underscores the importance of inter‑agency partnership in building a safer and more responsive emergency system for the people of Akwa Ibom State.
