- Don't wait until you feel some symptoms before going for eye checkups. It is advised that you get your eyes examined at least two times in a year. This is because there are certain eye conditions that attack without evoking strong symptoms. E.g, Glaucoma also known as the 'Silent thief of sight.'
- Keep to your Ophthalmologist' appointment. If you're asked to return to clinic in a week, it shows that the eye needs urgent care. But if you postpone or completely refuse regular appointments, you could be putting your eyes in danger.
- Do not tell lies to your Ophthalmologist. When questions like, "Did you apply urine or breast milk in your eyes?" are asked, answer truthfully. Do not feel embarrassed to share information that could help save your vision.
- Manage other health conditions in your body that may further worsen the eye condition. Diabetes and hypertension must be well managed by following a good diet and other instructions as given by your doctors.
- Google is not your friend when it comes to Eye care. Your Ophthalmologist is the first authority. Avoid self diagnosing, and self medication downloaded from the Internet. Whenever you're confused or concerned, remember to reach out to your Ophthalmologist.
