Thank you boss
I want more nurses to embrace entrepreneurship and become Nursepreneurs.
Combining entrepreneurship with my nursing career has been a game changer for me, and I truly wish more nurses would hone their entrepreneurial skills to develop bright business ideas that not only enhance their income but also contribute to the healthcare community in diverse ways.
The healthcare market is broad and isn't limited to drug retailing (chemist shops) as we see everywhere. However, when we think of entrepreneurship for nurses, the first business that typically comes to the mind of many people is a chemist business (retailing over the counter drugs).
My question is why are more nurses not venturing into Nurseprenuership and diversifying their offerings or services?
Let’s take a moment to reflect on this and to ask why.
Could it be that we don't have the necessary information?
Couldn't it be that we don't have the business acumen to combine with our Clinical expertise?
Could it be that we don't have the needed passion in us ?
My passion to promote Nurseprenuership in Nigeria is unwavering and I will continue to be loud about it and be everywhere to raise awareness for it.
There are many ideas nurses can pursue, invest in and grow to change their lives and impact community not just Chemist shops.
I know some that are already doing well as Nurseprenuers and not limited to the traditional Nursing roles.
For example, there is the market for care services, which involves supplying products or services by nurses and other healthcare professionals to patients. This includes concierge nursing, home healthcare agencies, nursing homes and clinics, childbirth education services, lactation consulting, health coaching, health writing and publication, and the production and distribution of medical apparel, among others.
We also have opportunities in the pharmaceutical sector too, which involves the distribution and sale of prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, and vaccines (here is where chemist shops falls in to) but that's not the only business nurses can do.
We have the Medical Device market too where Nurses' clinical knowledge makes them effective sales distributors and reps for medical device and pharmaceutical manufacturing companies because we can can provide valuable insights to healthcare providers on the use and benefits of these products .
We can also collaborate as nurses and identify unmet needs and develop innovative products, such as specialised medical equipment, patient aids devices and even healthcare related mobile applications as part promoting digital health care.
I think there is a need for us to move abit upwards from the traditional Nursing roles and bedside services or chemist shop business into exploring Nurseprenuership holistically and the truth is this will require a combination of clinical expertise, business acumen, and a passion for innovation in our hearts.
This is why I am very passionate about promoting Nurseprenuership.
I have created Jiro Health Professionals Community for Nurses and allied health professionals. My plan is that through the community, we would provide professional networking opportunities with other health professionals and explore opportunities.
Nurseprenuership should be everyone's desire now, especially in a country where nurses still earn as low as ₦30,000 per month and even the employer sees nothing wrong in it .
Offcourse, some of these nurses earning below normal are helpless and don't know what to do with their knowledge except being employed by someone. We need to help each other to discover our power and what we can do with our knowledge and skills outside traditional Nursing roles.
That's why we must discuss Nurseprenuership and practice it .
My motivation to succeed as a Nurseprenuer isn't just about earning money or personal ambition, that's just one of it, but about meeting needs within the healthcare industry and overcoming professional frustrations and burnout while trying to work overtime to foot bills.
