In my years as a pediatric nurse, midwife, and telehealth educator, I’ve learned that every experience brings a lesson. Each patient and family has taught me something valuable about care, compassion, and teamwork. Today I reflect on how far we’ve come and how much more we can do together.

Empathy empowers: Listening and reassurance can heal as much as medicine.

Education transforms: Teaching new parents how to care for their children builds confidence and strong families.

Innovation connects: Telehealth brings nursing support into homes near and far, so no one feels alone.

Mentorship inspires: Guiding new nurses today builds a stronger, healthier workforce for tomorrow.

I’m grateful for each lesson and proud of how we support families every day.

Hey Nurses Listen! 🩺🌟

Let's talk about intramuscular (IM) injections today. These injections are given directly into a muscle, and they're commonly used for vaccines, antibiotics, and other medications. Here's a quick breakdown:

WHY IM INJECTIONS?
👉Quick Absorption: Muscles have good blood supply, which means medications are absorbed faster.
👉Larger Dose: Muscles can hold more liquid compared to subcutaneous tissues.

PROPER TECHNIQUE
👉Angle: Insert the needle at a 90° angle.
👉Sites: Common sites include the deltoid (upper arm), vastus lateralis (thigh), and gluteus maximus (buttocks).
👉Aseptic Technique: Always ensure the site is clean and disinfected to prevent infection.

RISKS OF IMPROPER TECHNIQUE
💉Pain and Discomfort**: Incorrect angle or site can cause significant pain.
💉Nerve Damage**: Hitting a nerve can lead to serious complications.
💉Infection: Not following aseptic techniques increases the risk of infection.
💉Medication Leak: If not done correctly, the medication may leak into surrounding tissues, reducing effectiveness.

BEST PRACTICES
💉Training and Practice: Always ensure you’re well-trained and confident in your technique.
💉Use Proper Equipment: Ensure needles and syringes are appropriate for the medication and patient.
💉Patient Positioning: Proper positioning helps ensure the injection is given correctly and comfortably.

By mastering IM injections, we can ensure our patients receive the best care possible.

Stay informed, stay safe, and keep making a difference! 💉💪

Feel free to share your experiences or tips in the comments! 🗣️📚

Remember, proper technique not only improves patient care but also boosts your confidence as a healthcare professional. 💙

Stay awesome! 😊✨
