A Brief History of Our Organisation
Niger Delta Initiative Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society Limited was established in 2014 as a thriving savings and enterprise-support society aimed at expanding opportunities for business owners, artisans, and market traders across the region.
From inception, the cooperative provided a platform for small and medium-scale business loans, complemented by advisory and information services to guide entrepreneurs. It also operated a POS service for members and the general public, with its first office strategically located at Orhuwhorun Junction.
In 2020, following a period of restructuring and refurbishment, the society formally launched its farm initiative under the leadership of High Chief Emmanuel Shobor, JP, a respected Chief of the great Ughievwen Kingdom. The farm has operated successfully ever since, and the society has now expanded this initiative, inviting the public to invest in agriculture—a sector that continues to uphold dignity in labour and offers sustainable economic empowerment.
Recognising the severe and persistent food shortages across Nigeria, the society resolved that its most valuable asset—its farmlands—could serve as the foundation for a renewed direction and long-term prosperity. This shift in focus toward agricultural revolution and agribusiness management positioned the organisation to contribute meaningfully to local and international food supply chains while offering accessible, affordable commodities for business-oriented programmes, associations, and community groups. Additionally, the cooperative is committed to creating platforms for conferences, training, and public orientation to educate communities on modern agricultural practices.
A dedicated team within the Executive Committee worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life. To drive the expansion, the cooperative secured over thirty hectares of farmland across Owahwa and Aragba communities in the Ughievwen Kingdom, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
As the Niger Delta Initiative Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society continues to grow, we remain steadfast in our mission. We look forward to the future with renewed confidence, strengthened purpose, and a commitment to building a prosperous, food-secure society for generations to come.
