The Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency Senator Douye Diri was presented with two awards won courtesy of the performance of the Bayelsa State Ministry of Health in Primary Healthcare delivery.
The PHC Leadership Challenge is a joint initiative of UNICEF, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), the Federal Ministry of Health, NPHCDA, and partners such as the Gates Foundation and Dangote Foundation and is a very good way of stimulating states to take action and invest more intentionally in Primary Healthcare while competing healthily amongst themselves in the various geopolitical zones of Nigeria. Kudos to the Honourable Commissioner for Health Professor Seiyefa Brisibe and other healthcare leaders from the boards and parastatals such as the Bayelsa Primary Healthcare Board and the Bayelsa Health Insurance Scheme for taking up the challenge and coming runner-up in South-South Zone.
The award didn’t only come with a plaque for the Governor but a prize money of $400,000 USD which the governor has instantly promised to plough back into Primary Healthcare delivery. Bayelsa State was also adjudged national best in a number of performance indicators.
I have strong belief that this tempo will be sustained and the grand prize will be coming home to Bayelsa owing to the transformational leadership the health sector is experiencing from the Governor Douye Diri led Prosperity administration.
Congratulations to His Excellency Sen. Douye Diri
