Procurement of Quality Day-Old Chicks
Sourcing high-quality day-old chicks is the foundation of any successful poultry operation. Start by selecting reputable hatcheries with a proven track record of strong breeder flocks, proper vaccination programs, and excellent hatchery hygiene.
Choose chicks that are active, bright-eyed, well-feathered, and uniform in size.
Avoid birds that appear weak, chilled, or dehydrated. Ensure transportation is done in well-ventilated chick boxes, preferably early in the morning or late in the evening to minimize heat stress. Upon arrival, quickly transfer the chicks to a warm, prepared brooding area with clean water and starter feed.
Quality chicks increase survivability, improve growth performance, and reduce production losses, making proper procurement a critical step in profitable poultry farming.
