VMI Movement Somatic Practice
VMI Somatic Practice Certification Program (http://www.patriciabardi.com/programs/vmi-somatic-practice/)centered in Amsterdam is an integrative approach founded by Patricia Bardi in 1992. Introductory courses are offered throughout Europe and USA. An annual summer course is held in Tuscany. The VMI Somatic Practice Certification Program fulfills the educational requirements and 75 hours of the 150 hours of professional application work required to join ISMETA – the International Somatic Movement Education & Therapy (www.ismeta.org). The KTNO (www.ktno.nl) accreditation is a HBO college level training as a licensed natural health practitioner through the BATC. The program has been audited & approved by the CRKBO (www.crkbo.nl) as a European professional educational program & continues to be BTW free.
The program offers an intensive training integrating dance, movement, active breath, voice, improvisation, touch, physical repatterning and hands-on practice to become skilled practitioners in the fields of bodywork, somatic movement therapy/education & creative practice with voice & movement.
The training incorporates innovative work combining:
Vocal Dance - a somatic creative practice that frees the voice to be fully alive and reflected in one's expressive vitality and movement.
Voice Movement Integration (VMI) Somatic Practice - an integrative somatic practice actively combining voice and movement with the deepening process of bodywork to stimulate and organize the body’s physical-perceptual-emotional awareness.
Vital Movement Integration (VMI) Bodywork – a gentle, precise hands-on integrative approach to health and healing that guides the internal organs and glands in regaining normal tone and mobility as they influence & support the vital balance of the skeletal, muscular and nervous systems. This work facilitates more balanced breathing, improves postural integration. It connects body, mind, and emotions bringing a renewed sense of equilibrium and well-being through the entire body.
Certification Program – The VMI somatic process is integrative building upon the dual function of insight and healing fostered by connecting movement and sound through the body deepening the effect on the integration of body, mind and emotions.
Vocal and physical practices explore the anatomy & physiology of each body system as a source for identifying and qualifying resonance and vibration of sound and movement in the body. Bodywork protocols are defined in detail and include both physical and vocal practices.
The body can perceive more subtle defined layers of awareness as the sound guides one to a fuller more aligned sense of self in movement. This connection is further deepened through Vocal Dance - vocalizing and moving within a group creates a celebratory experience bringing one closer to a transpersonal experience of being vitally alive. Within a healing process of self-discovery, improvisation then becomes a skill and a philosophy.
Certification Program Modules
The entire curriculum consists of six modules totalling 672 hours. Upon completion of Module 1, a foundation course of 25 days, each subsequent module can be taken in a sequence or at flexible times. Each year one of the advanced modules is offered as further study for certification students.
Certified VMI Practitioners work in a variety of creative, educational and therapeutic settings with children and adults offering individual sessions and group work. The work has been successfully applied to dance, music, voice, theatre, education, child development, speech therapy, physical therapy, trauma therapy and body-oriented psychotherapy.
