A lot of yoga books, teachers and online profiles seem to say that striving for self-improvement is not "yoga". I was just looking at google impages on "yoga quotes on self improvement" and the first 100 or so say "yoga is not about self-improvement. It's about self-acceptance." The main reason I disagree about this is that in order to focus the mind, yoga postures have to be a little challenging; a little bit outside of your comfort zone. And that means you're constantly improving yourself. Of course - as I wrote before - this all starts by accepting (and I mean TRULY!! accepting) where you are now.
💪🏻
Where I think the true magic of self-acceptance and self-improvement starts is when 1) you really accept where you are now 2) you have some goal in yoga/life that you want to achieve with all your heart (let's call this passion) and 3) you remember to enjoy that you're on the path where you really want to be. And this doesn't have to be in something big. It can be in small things: learning to sing good enough for your neighbours to hear, mastering bakasana, spending less time on your phone, etc. Or, if you DO have a bigger goal in life, it can be in the smaller steps towards that bigger goal.

With regards to your goals in life off the mat, yoga can help you by learning how to keep mindful whatever you're doing, by finding out your stronger and weaker points, and by how to accept and work with those stronger and weaker points.

Wow, I'm afraid this story got a little more difficult than I intended. But I REALLY believe that yoga can help any person to make their magic happen (hence my IG-name). That's also why I'll be doing a three-day yoga retreat in October on just this subject: how can yoga help you make your magic happen. The retreat is together with Mindful Yoga Retreats. Another thing I'm not a typical yogi is that I usually don't mind if other people/my kids "disturb" me while doing yoga. Yoga isn't about being successful in staying focused when all conditions are ideal. It's about staying mindful and keeping your breath even when conditions aren't ideal... That's why both pictures in this post are yoga
