AHF’s partner Positive Θετική Φωνή (Positive Voice) plays an important role in making this a reality in Greece. They bridge the gap between patients and the healthcare system by providing linkage-to-care support and advocating for structural reforms to improve treatment access, including:

Therefore, we call on all policymakers in Greece to urgently act on these priorities: invest in integrated HIV services, end treatment delays, expand access nationwide, ensure inclusion of PWID, refugees and migrants, and create healthcare environments where people living with HIV are treated with dignity and respect.

AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the largest global AIDS organization, currently provides medical care and/or services to over 1.75 million clients in 45 countries worldwide. AHF is a global organization working in 48 countries, providing high-quality HIV care and support to over 2 million clients worldwide. With more than 7,500 dedicated employees, we get the work done: every day, everywhere.

At AHF, we believe that exchanging experiences and approaches across regions helps us grow as an organization and continuously improve our services.

Recently, our AHF Europe Bureau Advocacy Manager, Tamara Prinsenberg, PhD, visited AHF programs in 𝗨𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮, 𝗞𝗲𝗻𝘆𝗮, and 𝗥𝘄𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮. During the visit, she engaged with staff at 𝗛𝗜𝗩 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝘀, 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀 (sexual health clinics), 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 (HIV testing sites), and other program sites: learning from their work.

An especially inspiring moment was spending a day with the 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗔𝗰𝘁 program in 𝗠𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗮, 𝗞𝗲𝗻𝘆𝗮, where she joined the girls in their activities. Girls Act empowers girls and young women aged 10–24 to stay healthy and thrive. As a girl-led initiative, it builds leadership, confidence, and strong peer support among its members.

Tamara also had the privilege of participating in a 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 organized by 𝗔𝗛𝗙 𝗞𝗲𝗻𝘆𝗮 in 𝗞𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘆 to discuss gender-based violence and other challenges faced by the community. It was a powerful gathering that brought together imams, pastors, peer educators, women-group representatives, people with disabilities, village leaders, and police representatives to openly discuss issues and search for solutions together.

These meaningful exchanges are a testament to what makes AHF unique: a commitment to listening, learning, and acting—together.

🌲 Peace, music, and health at Yaga Gathering! 🌿

Our amazing partner in Lithuania Asociacija Demetra once again brought health closer to the people during the magical YAGA Festival on July 11–12. In the heart of nature, among music and community, they offered free rapid testing for HIV, Hepatitis C, and Syphilis.

111 festival participants took a step toward protecting their health.
✨ Conversations, smiles, questions, and care – it all happened under the forest sky.

At the heart of this year’s conference, 𝗔𝗛𝗙 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘁 on one of the most critical, and often overlooked, challenges in HIV care: 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

🎙️ Moderated by Brian Shepherd, the conversation brought together experts from across the globe:

• 𝗗𝗿. Rangira Lambert, AHF Rwanda
• 𝗗𝗿. Mona-Gekanju T., AHF USA
• Tamara Prinsenberg, PhD, AHF Europe

Together, they unpacked why 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗛𝗜𝗩 (𝗣𝗟𝗛𝗜𝗩) 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 must be treated with the same urgency as testing and treatment initiation. As Brian reminded us, 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝙞𝙨 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

🧠 Key takeaways:

“Retention saves lives.” – Dr. Rangira

“Since launching our Back in Care program, AHF USA has reconnected over 9,000 patients to care.” – Dr. Toeque

“We need policies and data systems that make long-term care the default—not the exception.” – Dr. Prinsenberg

Last week, the AHF Europe 𝗕𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘂 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 came together for an engaging and forward-looking team meeting.
We reviewed progress across our workplans, took stock of key 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, discussed ongoing 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀, and mapped out 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 for the next six months. A central focus was how we can improve 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 and provide even stronger support to our country offices.
As we continue working to expand access to HIV prevention, testing, and treatment across the region, meetings like these help us stay aligned, inspired, and ready to act.
Together, we’re building a stronger, more connected AHF Europe.

Menstrual Health Day 2025 – Breaking Barriers in Lublin!
On May 28, AHF Poland took meaningful action to support menstrual health in Lublin!
What was achieved:
✅ The team provided a year’s supply of menstrual products for the Pink Boxes at Lublin University of Technology, ensuring students have access to essential hygiene items. Plus, our expert-led lecture, "Menstrual Health - Seriously!" brought important conversations to the forefront.
✅ joined the "Career Cycle" program and the "Equal Period" initiative by Kulczyk Foundation—because responsible employers support the menstrual health of their employees!
✅ Pink Boxes were also stocked in Youth & Integration Spaces across Lublin, offering free products to those who need them most.
✅ conducted "Period Power" event! A physiotherapist-led workshop, a doctor’s lecture, an exciting quiz with prizes, and a performance by a local star made it a day to remember!
✅ provided menstrual products—pads, tampons, and hygiene items—to 80 refugee women at the Łuków Center for Foreigners, because period dignity knows no borders!
Together, we’re making menstrual health accessible, equitable, and stigma-free.
