It brings you into full awareness of the here and now. On the one hand it is a confrontation with the ego and on the other hand Yopo offers the experience of unity consciousness. The Yopo we work with comes from the Piaroa tribe from the Amazon of Venezuela. For centuries they have been protecting the tradition of the Yopo and using the medicine for healing and spiritual purposes. Yopo is a natural entheogenic medicine. It is prepared with the ground seed of the Ananthethera Peregrina tree. The powder is inhaled through the nose.
Before the Yopo is taken we eat a few rounds of the Caapi. This acts as a relaxant and chemically prepares the body for the journey with Yopo.
The Caapi brings you in a deep yogi stat of meditation. The original way to take the Yopo medicine is by sniffing it up with a Yopera, a tubular instrument that splits into two small tubes that fit into each nose opening. In the Piaroa tradition we inhale the Yopo through the nose. Inhaling the Yopo is not unpleasant. The experience of Yopo takes about 2 hours per round. In most cases 1 or 2 rounds are given.
After taking the Yopo, the medicine starts to work slowly within 5 minutes. The body starts to warm up and you feel a powerful energy developing throughout the body. You
experience a physical awareness and possible discomfort that invites you to purify the body (regularly in the form of vomiting). This in order to detoxify the body and release all energy channels. Powerful visuals can arise. These have the purpose of reprogramming your thought structures and mechanisms. This is an important aspect to let go of unhealthy patterns and make room for new perceptions. One of the characteristics of Yopo is that it shows our ego and wants to help us return to our true essence of love. The experience with Yopo creates a deep sense of gratitude and understanding. It supports us in discovering our unique selves and being able to live from the eyes of love. Only from Pure Love can we truly know each other, because love is what we are. The 2 hour Yopo experience takes place with our eyes closed in 1 (seated) posture and in silence. The posture we adopt is sitting on a chair. This is the traditional way of traveling with Yopo. The purpose of this is to support you and to limit any form of distraction.
During the ceremony we sing traditional songs and it can happen that healings are given. So far, no accidents have been reported when using Yopo in ceremonial settings. What has been reported is a large amount of testimonies from people who, after a Yopo experience, have felt the first big click to start a process of total liberation from the self-limiting beliefs that imprison us. This can help us leave depression or addiction. For our team it is an ideal complement to healing processes, understanding and transformation. Another of the wonderful range of tools we have to solve our psycho-emotional and health problems and to live fully and in peace. For whom? A Yopo-ceremony is for anyone with an open mind and a willingness to face both their own light and shadow sides. Yopo does not go with certain medication, use your medication and always report this to us.
