CLASSES IN THE FALL
Dear all,
I hope everyone is doing well. I'm definitely still on the careful end of the spectrum when it comes to coronavirus, and so I am trying to decide what to do about the Iyengar yoga classes starting from September. As you can imagine, the classes will look pretty different: we can only fit a small group of people in the studio, and we will need to adapt the way we use props and adjustments. Because of the small group sizes, I would like people to sign up for a block of classes rather than drop-in.
My suggestion is that for each class there would be a group of around 4 students that sign up for a block (approximately eight weeks of classes). These students would take class together for the length of the block, which would allow for me to teach an actual course. Also, it's much nicer for me to have regulars, so I don't feel like I'm teaching the same things over and over again :) It is no problem to miss a class if something important comes up, but you would have to commit to attending the majority of them, since there will be very few spots available. I know everyone appreciates the flexibility of a drop-in system, but at this point it's just not sustainable. Of course, if there is a second wave of corona and people don't feel safe coming to class, that's a different thing.
PRACTICAL DETAILS
--I have the OT301 studio booked on Sundays, 19.30-20.45 and Mondays 19.00-20.30. Ideally we would have a beginners class on Sundays and an intermediate class on Mondays, but since the groups are small, I can adapt the level to the group easily.
--The first block will be from Sept 1st to Oct 31st. We will evaluate after that how to continue.
--Price: the classes will be quite tiny and I do have to cover the rent, but I still would like to keep a sliding scale system. The price would be between 50 and 80 euros for all eight classes, with a suggested contribution of 60. However, if money is an issue for you, PLEASE tell me and I can reduce or waive the fee. I am much more interested in having a group of dedicated people than I am in your money :)
--OneFitters: you are welcome to attend through OneFit, but we would need to coordinate, as I would only make your spot available (and you would have to be quick at snagging it) and you would need to assure me that you will come to all the classes in the block.
--Props: you would need to bring your own yoga mat. I can lend you one if you don't have one. It might be possible to leave your mats in the studio. You would also need to bring a towel or sheet to cover the soft props before you use them. Everyone will have to wash their hands before class and clean the hard props after using them.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IF YOU WANT TO SIGN UP
Email me at ot301iyengar@gmail.com saying that you are interested, your preferred day of the week (Sunday/Monday/either) and if I don't you well, your level (beginner/intermediate). Tell me also if you plan to come through OneFit and if you need a fee reduction. I will ask everyone for a 20 euro deposit when signing up, and for the remainder of the fee on the first day of class. If you cancel, I will give you your deposit back if someone else takes your place. Feel free to share this with friends who might be interested, but the classes will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Looking forward to seeing a few of you in the mat soon,
María
