W I N T E R B L U E S... Unavoidable? Not necessarily.
Here something for you to try out this weekend. When in India studying Ayurveda, I accepted every single cup of Masala Chai I was offered by the caring staff of my school.
This Masala Chai will soften the winter dip and brighten up your spirit. It may also become your best coffee alternative:
5-7 green cardamom pods – should be chewed every day if you have a tendency to feel down.
½ cinnamon stick, split lengthwise – relieves muscle tension, and not only that.
3-4 whole cloves – this mild aphrodisiac disinfects and calms pain.
5-7 grains black pepper – stimulates the blood circulation, helps your lungs to stay healthy.
1-2 star anise – an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory.
3 slices fresh ginger – keeps catching a cold at bay, reeeally helps to keep your digestion in order.
1 cup water
1-2 black tea bags (replace with de-theinated tea if you don’t want theine)
1 cup milk (cow’s or plant-based)
½ - 1 tsp. honey
☕️ Lightly crush cardamom pods, cloves, star anise and peppercorns, and place in a pot with water. ☕️ Add ginger and cinnamon. Crush the ginger slices a bit.
☕️ Simmer gently for 5-10 minutes covered, then turn off the heat.
☕️ Add the tea and let it steep for at least 5 minutes.
☕️ Add milk. Bring to a simmer once more, turn off the heat and cool to drinking temperature.
☕️ Stir in honey. Strain into a mug. Enjoy !!
