Gisteren liep ik achteraan in het bos met een paar dierbare kinderen vanuit onze hechte vriendenkring. Er was een ander kindje dat erg overstuur was, en dat maakte zichtbaar indruk op ze. Het werd gezien als zielig, maar ook een beetje spannend, en de eerste reactie was dat het “raar” leek. Ik legde rustig uit dat het kindje autisme heeft en dat zo’n reactie kan ontstaan door een nieuwe plek of door emoties. Soms kan het zelfs blijdschap zijn, maar dan ziet het er anders uit dan wat we gewend zijn.

Daarna vertelde ik dat mijn brein ook anders werkt: dat ik ADHD heb, gevoelig ben en soms echt overprikkeld raak. Dat werd vergeleken met een prikkelplant, ik moest lachen. Zoiets ja, maar dan zonder de pijn van de naaltjes — meer omdat mijn hoofd gewoon te vol zit. Een ander herkende dat gevoel van “te veel”, en vroeg tevens wat ADHD precies is. Ik zei dat je hoofd dan heel druk is en dat je er soms moe van wordt omdat het maar doorgaat, je kunt het niet uitzetten.. Toen vertelde de jongste van het gezelschap dat haar hoofd ook anders werkt, door epilepsie.

Dat moment raakte me. Waarop ik tegen ze zei: cool he, we zijn allemaal anders en dat maakt ons uniek. Dit korte gesprekje neem ik mee voor de komende tijd. Een moment waarop ik mij weer even realiseerde wat er echt toe doet in het leven en de onschuld van een kind. ❤️
